Does Troy Westwood cross the line? Tue, September 2, 2008
As the former Blue Bomber kicker who inspired the name 'The Banjo Bowl', does Troy Westwood go too far in his attempts to goad Saskatchewan fans?
Excerpt from a column titled Something Stinks
Could you smell that this morning? It was coming in from the West. Just about made me puke. Some kind of bizarre mixture of dirty old socks and pickle juice. Used to think only my Aunt Fay smelled like that.
Turns out my beautiful Aunt Fay, she has five of her own teeth, was just one of the many of the tens of thousands in Saskabush to carry that scent with them. They are known as the Rider Nation, and they smell like dirty old socks and pickle juice.

Hey, we can take it but we can dish it out too, eh.

As the hubby of "Aunt Fay" and on behalf of "Aunt Fay" we thought that the article lacked good taste. Sure we appreciate the on-going jabs between WBB and SRR under normal circumstances and in most cases is good fun, but the "Something Stinks" article was a bit much.

Well he was right about one thing, something did stink on Sunday.

Response to Troy Westwood Article
HILLBILLIE GREEN
(RIDER PRIDE)
We loaded up the truck
My hillbillie family and I,
Heading out East
To Bluebomber Sky
My dirty socks I was wearing
The jugs filled with pickle juice,
My gums were all clean
Including my tooth
We got to the border
And what did we do?
Waved at Gary Doer of course
Wiith a finger, flag and a pom pom or two
The Rider fans were terrific
It was an awesome scene
The stadium was full
Of hillbillie green.
The game we did win,
Rider Nation full of pride
Westwood on the side lines
Oh! How he did cry
Troy you are welcome
To visit out west,
But please remember
Rider Nations The Best!

The SunMedia Group should really re-evaluate their decision to use Troy Westwood as his forum to show off his infantile attitudes. Yes, I think a fun jab here and there is funny, but Troy Westwood's approach is all wrong. Please send him to school to understand what print media is all about or don't print his articles. And fire the guy that hired him!

I found it very informative. I did not realize that people in Saskatchewan smelled bad. I always assumed they smelled like everyone else.

I'm from Regina, and can easily take a good natured and funny jab. This fails miserably at funny. As others have mentioned, its more sad and pathetic. Surely, there's loads of people in Winnipeg better at this?

For a guy who has taken more crap than any person should ever have to take, Troy has earned the right to dish some out. Give him his chance to rant and then let him fade in to obscurity.

As a local person from Winnipeg here's waht I have to say:
Please excuse our Village Idiot. He somehow got a job with the Winnipeg Sun. Get jounalisum Troy, Calling a Province "poopy pants." Comparing Regina to some local hillbilly sterotype.
I'm a Blue Bomber fan but you got to respect a Province to where they take their Football seriously and love their Football to a tee. Their willing to wear Watermelon outfits on the Labor day classic nad tough the Yellow jacket that surrounds them at the Football field and The Banjo Bowl. Thier die hard football fans. something that Winnipeg will sadly never be. ((Plus they still have cheerleaders that actually cheer on their team not just dance around.))
Remember it's not just the regular season that counts but the Playoffs as well. bombers were doing great last year and they didn't win the Grey Cup.
Otherwise great season for Saskawan Roughriders.
