Have you forgiven Todd Bertuzzi?
Wed, August 27, 2008

Famous for sending one of the loudest messages in sports lore, Todd Bertuzzi delivered a much gentler one to Calgary Flames fans yesterday.

"Obviously I'm well aware I wasn't the most popular pickup in Calgary Flames history but at the same time, I think you have to give it a little bit of time and give me a chance," said the bruising winger at his introductory press availability alongside four other new Flames.

"Given the chance, I think I can prove myself and help this team out."

Have you forgiven Todd Bertuzzi for his on-ice attack of Steve Moore in 2004? Have your say in our forum.

Bertuzzi gave Moore a 'love tap'? Are you completely insane or just plain stupid? Bertuzzi gave Moore a full arm punch from behind, with his GLOVE STILL ON and then rodeoed him down to the ice face first. It's people like you who enable this garbage to continue giving hockey a black eye. McSorely was banned for far longer for a far less odious offence, but he wasn't a 'star' like Bertuzzi so it was ok.

Are you really suggesting you could handle what Bertuzzi did to Moore? Bert is over 230 lbs., but you could handle his full weight smashing you face-first into the ice when an actual NHL player couldnt? Right. You're an idiot.

The hit Moore gave to Naslund was not even in the same league as Bertuzzi's, and Im tired of fools like you suggesting Moore deserved it. Moore's career is over because of a BROKEN NECK so his lawsuit is nowhere near 'frivolous' as you say, because the man who ended his NHL days is still playing.

No, I haven't forgiven Bertuzzi and never will. He should have been banned forever, but because Bettman is such a spineless tool, he got a slap on the wrist in comparison for his offence. Anyone who has forgiven Bertuzzi is an idiot and Sutter has lowered himself in my eyes for signing this cowardly goon.

The people who have forgiven him are plain STUPID. You only have to ask yourself 1 simple question. If Steve Moore was your son, would you still have forgiven Bertuzzi? I think not! The NHL should have banned him for life or until Steve Moore is able to return. I hope Calgary goes up in flames this year!

I can't believe you are asking this question. The only person who could ever forgive him is the man whose life he destroyed. If Steve Moore ever forgives him, he's a better man than I.

Yes,

Forgiveness is a part of life. Hockey is too violent but lets not pretend its all Todd's fault.

What Bettuzzi did has been done many times in hockey, fortunately not all times with the same result. Being a former competitor in a different sport I say it's long overdue to let it go.

Remember the Super Series of 1972 had many Russian players kicking the Canadians and went on to be great players in the NHL.

We didn't harp on it for years or even months after.

Your life must be pretty darn vacant to keep this alive

NO, NEVER!!!

No. You don't forgive stupidity. The act was premeditated and deliberate. No place in hockey for such things. And as stated earlier, he's never taken responsibility for his actions, instead trying to blame Crawford. If he wanted to even the score he could have checked Moore. Sneaking up from behind like that tells me he's a coward. Bertuzzi also took an extremely selfish and stupid penalty in the Olympics, a team he should never been on in the first place.

I won't pay to see a Flames game again until he's gone.

We shouldn't be surprised by those lining up to welcome him. If Daniel Alfredsson suddenly wound up a Leaf, they'd soon be lining up to kiss his ass too. All of which goes to prove that the dumbest single element in all of pro sports is the one that includes the fans! Salaries go up, ticket prices rise accordingly, as do cable charges, and the grumbling is soon put aside as many go into hock to ensure their butt is in the seat.

Dumb to the bone and incapable of latching onto the thought that they have the weapon to bring pro sports back to reality.

As Ivan Illitch wrote in Tools For Conviviality "In a consumer society there are inevitably two kinds of slaves: the prisoners of addiction and the prisoners of envy."

I never had a problem with Todd so I do not have to forgive him...He was just picking up for his teammate who had received a cheap shot from Moore in their previous meeting...I think Moore was a wussy and should have picked up for himself, he knew he would have to answer for what he did to Naslund, if he did not then he should not be playing hockey...

Also, the little love tap that Todd gave him would not hurt him - even I could handle that, he went for a dive and that probably cost his his career...I guarantee you that the hit did not cause the injury, it was the PILING ON OF HIS TEAMMATES that caused the injury...

Moore if you were a man you would have stood up to Todd when he asked you to fight the first time, then none of this would be happening and you would not need your frivolous lawsuit...

Glad to see you back in Canada where you belong Todd!!!

Never had a problem with the guy. He was doing his job, what happened was an accident. The other guy did the same and just go what he gave out. It turned out worse in Todd's case but I don't think it was any different.
