Have you forgiven Todd Bertuzzi?
Wed, August 27, 2008

Famous for sending one of the loudest messages in sports lore, Todd Bertuzzi delivered a much gentler one to Calgary Flames fans yesterday.

"Obviously I'm well aware I wasn't the most popular pickup in Calgary Flames history but at the same time, I think you have to give it a little bit of time and give me a chance," said the bruising winger at his introductory press availability alongside four other new Flames.

"Given the chance, I think I can prove myself and help this team out."

Have you forgiven Todd Bertuzzi for his on-ice attack of Steve Moore in 2004? Have your say in our forum.

I think he did his "time" (so to speak) and even if you agree with his penalties or not ... he did his time! When a hardened criminal does his time he gets out of jail and is accepted again after he proves himself. Give the guy a chance to prove himself again.

Its not right what Bertuzzi did...But its time to move on, your playing a violent physical game and sometimes emotions get the better of a person the law did what they had to do, the NHL did what they had to do, now lets move on don't let this situation become bigger than the game...like a brett Farve circus....MOVE ON!!!

It's not our place to forgive,we didn't get hurt, Steve Moore did.....

If Moore would have had the kiwi's to fight Bertuzzi in the first place, instead of turtling, we wouldn't be talking about this today. Obviously, Bertuzzi was out of line for the cheap shot... period.
Fabulous Fabe, 2008-09-24 11:02:41

Bertuzzi's attack was completely bush and probably illegal, he should never have been allowed to play again, forget forgiveness. He gave hockey a black eye.

nope. you take out someone due to an accident, you can forgive that. you give a guy a cheap shot and lay him out cause you don't have balls to get in his face...you're a coward.

No. Flat out No. He's a violent moron and if he hadn't been blessed with hockey skills he'd be riding the back of a garbage truck for a living. No offense, and all apologies, to the fine people who collect our garbage. I've likely lowered the good standing of your profession by associating the likes of Bertuzzi with it.

I feel sorry for Steve Moore, just the same as I would for any professional athlete who suffered a career ending injury. As for forgiving Berutzzi, I have never fully blamed him. Many players have been smacked from behind, before and since this incident. I'm still convinced that Moore suffered his broken neck from all the players that piled on top of them. It was an accident, a very unfortunate accident. I don't think there was any angle that could positively identify the exact moment that Moore became seriously injured.

I'm disgusted with those who say it's time to move on. Tell that to Steve Moore. His life has been changed forever by an act of cowardice/selfishness and the perpetrator just gets on with his life. If something like that happened to any of you, you'd likely be in court pleading mental anguish and suffering and be complaining about the justice system protecting the criminals when the perpetrator gets off and you're left struggling because you have to give up your career, dreams and your health all because of: some arrogant coward who couldn't stand the fact that his team was losing, and a team that was blatantly breaking the law by uttering threats long before this event - threat that were ignored by the inept NHLPA and NHL commish.
