Have you forgiven Todd Bertuzzi?
Wed, August 27, 2008

Famous for sending one of the loudest messages in sports lore, Todd Bertuzzi delivered a much gentler one to Calgary Flames fans yesterday.

"Obviously I'm well aware I wasn't the most popular pickup in Calgary Flames history but at the same time, I think you have to give it a little bit of time and give me a chance," said the bruising winger at his introductory press availability alongside four other new Flames.

"Given the chance, I think I can prove myself and help this team out."

Have you forgiven Todd Bertuzzi for his on-ice attack of Steve Moore in 2004? Have your say in our forum.

As a supporter of the Flames, all I want at this stage is for Bertuzzi to come to work every game and do his job. If it works out that way, it will work out for the Flames.

As for the other stuff, it's clearly not something in the past. He will face more stiff challenges in the Courts, and the game of hockey will pale in comparison. I have empathy with Bertuzzi, who whenever he closes his eyes and thinks back, then opens them and realizes he cannot change a thing. I have sympathy for Moore who every day has a constant reminder of it.

he should never been allowed to return to the NHL

Todd Bertuzzi is a cowardly scumbag. He ended another player's career, damn near killed him and now he should be a hero? He should be vilified, abandoned and booed at every turn. He has not taken responsibility for his crime and never will.

Todd Bertuzzi represents everything that is wrong with the NHL. If he had been properly punished in the first place then I wouldn't have an issue with him still playing. At this point, he shouldn't be allowed in the League until he's settled with Steve Moore. What a disgrace.

There's likely something each one of us would like to take back and can't - Todd's happened to be in front of very large audience - enough already - time to move on

How do you forgive someone who won't take responsibility for his actions? Blame the coach (although Crawford's a dick too), blame the team, blame the culture, I just did what was expected.

Nope..and I never will. He shouldn't be playing in any league..he's not deserving of it. Shame on the NHL for allowing this moron to continue to play and make money. He took away the ability for another player to ever be able to play hockey again. The same should have been taken away from Bertuzzi. He did it once, he'll do it again, guaranteed.

Thanks for your comments, Huck, they certainly have merit in that if the useless NHL brass would have dealt with the 3 weeks of threats leading up to the assault it may never have happened. But I would hope your logic would let you agree that if Bertuzzi had not decided to pull this crap no one would have piled on Steve Moore and therefore I will continue to blame Bertuzzi 100% as he was the one who blatantly broke NHL and Canadian laws because he makes more money/he's better than everyone/blah,blah,blah. I will never believe he didn't mean to hurt Steve Moore because the Canucks were threatening to do it, and Moore had already fought in that game - I will however say that he didn't mean it to be as bad as it was, but that doesn't change the end result.

Noway!! Bertuzzi's stunt and the way the league handled it are two prime reasons why I no longer have any interest in following NHL hockey. I was also very disappointed in Wayne Gretzky's comments and handling of the issue. I have a lot of respect for Wayne, but he let everyone down on that one. Bertuzzi should have been banned from the game for life. Everyone would be better for it.

It will never be forgotten as long as the media keeps it going, my duaghter was at the pre season game last night in calgary and the press was heavy. As for my self sure its done, it shouldn't have happened. Its not the ugliest thing to happen in hockey and it won't be the last.
