Have you forgiven Todd Bertuzzi?
Wed, August 27, 2008

Famous for sending one of the loudest messages in sports lore, Todd Bertuzzi delivered a much gentler one to Calgary Flames fans yesterday.

"Obviously I'm well aware I wasn't the most popular pickup in Calgary Flames history but at the same time, I think you have to give it a little bit of time and give me a chance," said the bruising winger at his introductory press availability alongside four other new Flames.

"Given the chance, I think I can prove myself and help this team out."

Have you forgiven Todd Bertuzzi for his on-ice attack of Steve Moore in 2004? Have your say in our forum.

I still would like to know what the outcome from that incident would have been if there had not been a "piling on" with the victim on the bottom. All players should share some of the responsibility of injuries.

I think "piling on" should be penalized in some way.

Nope. Should have never been allowed to step foot on an ice rink again.

I haven't watched much hockey since colour TV came out, probably because the game's gone downhill and most rules like holding and slashing are ignored.

What I'd like to know, is why the guy who piggybacked Bertuzzi and Moore to the ice got off scot-free. I've always thought his involvement did the most damage to Moore - after all, he added another 200 lbs to the weight on Moore's neck. Have a close look at the hit and you just might agree. Can any of you even recall his name? I doubt many will.

As for Bertuzzi's future in hockey, I'm sure hockey fans will make that decision with their ticket money...

Touch call - Todd was very wrong and is paying the price for it but here's some perspective. Dany Heatley did something very wrong, Snider is dead, and he does not face the scorn or derision Bert does. Someone who is anti-Bert needs to tell me which situation is worse. We both know the answer. Time to move on....

APPARENTLY NONE OF YOU NEGATIVE IDIOTS WATCHED ALL OF THE PLAY FROM THAT GAME AS MOORE AGITATED THE SITUATION STARTING FROM BEHIND THE NET WHEN BERTUZZI WANTED HIM TO FIGHT THEN BUT THE COWARDLY WEASLE MOORE JUST KEPT MOUTHING OFF AND SKATED AWAY , WHEN BERTUZZI FOLLOWED IT WASN,T HIS INTENT TO K.O. MOORE FROM BEHIND IT WAS TO GET HIM TO TURN AROUND TO FIGHT , HE DIDN,T KNOW THE WEASEL WAS GOING TO GO DOWN LIKE A SACK OF POTATOES CAUSING BERTUZZI TO FALL DIRECTLY ON TOP OF HIM WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO STOP , MOORE MIGHT HAVE BEEN SOMEWHAT LESS HURT IF HALF OF HIS TEAM DIDN,T JUMP ON HIM TO / SO THE NEXT TIME YOU PEOPLE WANT TO CONDEMN SOMEBODY WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE WHOLE STORY LOOK AT YOURSELVES AND PUT YOURSELF IN BERTUZZIS PLACE WHO HAS NEVER DONE ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE / LET HIM PLAY AND HE,LL SHOW YOU HE IS ONE OF THE BEST LIKE HE ALWAYS HAS BEEN UNTIL YOU NEGATIVE IDIOTS ALL JUMPED ON THE BAND WAGON

There are worse, more dangerous hits happening in hockey at least once a week at the NHL level. What Bertuzzi did was a dirty hit, but was made much worse by the way they fell together, hit the ice and were than jumped on. I would bet 99 times out of 100 that exact same punch from behind would not have the disastrous consequences it did in this case. It was a bad hit, made a million times worse by bad luck.
Nathan, 2008-10-08 14:24:47

I still blame him as much as I blame Steve Moore and his coach.

Trying to disable superstars with dirty play is just as bad as the dirty play with goons.
Trev, 2008-10-08 13:27:27

Why is the NHL the only league that does not believ in their own rules. Cherry , Bertuzzi, McSorely, et al felt it is their job to discipline the other team. Cherru says there is honour in this. many in the world are not honourable people so they abuse the unwritten rule.

This is just another story for media to blow up! This whole incident was made out much worser than needed. Of course Todd's actions were uncalled for and he paid a huge price for his actions. Some have done much worse in the game of hockey, international and NHL. Moore is the loser in all of this although I don't know if it's fair to say he was ever a winner. The guy was a call up, probably wouldn't be playing in the pros right now even he was healthy. Our legal society has become so over bearing that individuals that make crazy amounts of money can turn around and sue for incidents during their respective sports. Could you imagine seeing a boxer sue another boxer because he suffered a concussion during a fight? So all you bums out there that like jumping on the media bandwagon and like holding on to events that have little to no impact on your lifes, why don't you go out and get one or maybe the media should start writing about all the stupid things you've done in your life. This guy deserves the opportunity to move on, so do you!
