Will you cheer or jeer Sundin?
Wed, January 7, 2009

TERRY JONES, SUN MEDIA

The world's most expensive hockey rental player, the subject of one of the sorriest "national" sports soap operas of all time, is going to be a major event here tonight, a feature photo-op of this entire NHL season.

Mats Sundin, after practice in Vancouver, gave himself the green light, boarded the flight and arrived here yesterday with the Canucks preparing to play in tonight's tilt against the Edmonton Oilers.

Will you cheer or jeer Sundin's return to the NHL? Have your say in our forum.

Sundin could make Canucks debut against Oilers

He took the offer with the most $$$$$$ and not what gives him the best shot at the cup....interesting.

Did he make the right move? Of course he did, that's a no brainer. Did he sell what he said last year that he didn't want to be a rental player. Not one bit. Lets look at his career for a moment. Yes he had a great career during the "regular" season, but come playoff time he disappeared as do most Europeans. The true grit players are who take you to the top. Mats was never a playoff great, that's why Quebec got rid of him and sent him to TO. This deal is a great deal for him no doubt as that's a lot of cash to not take. But l'll bet he has a terrible last half of the season, and if the Canucks make it to the playoffs, don't expect Mat's to be leading the way.

I doubt that Sundin went to Vancouver just for the money - he's got lots of it.

Maybe he wanted to stay in a peaceful country like Canada, where hockey is the top dog.

All right baby. Canucks get Sundin so the Moose will get Jaffs back. Sad for him. it will be nice to see Mats play in a city that doesn't think of itself as the center of the universe. He should make a great fit in the west coast. To all the Toronto babies that says he has no heart I hope he proves you all wrong in june.

Who cares, good riddance. He finally came out of the closet. No wonder he chose Vancouver. Gay capital of Canada.

A hypocryte thru and thru. don't we all remember last year, I'm a leaf, I bleed blue and white. When they needed him to step up and waive his no trade contract in so that they could get something for him and rebuild he cried I want to retire a leaf, I don't want to be a rent a player for some team. I want to drop in half way through the season. What a load of bulls---. Typical Euro trash in for the money, no heart and no guts. Then again he was Toronto's so called leader, and look how bad they were..speaks volumes. See Don Cherry was correct about those Euro's all along. In it for the money nothing else. Thats why Canadians will always win the important battles, cause dey got heart.

From a Maple Leafs fan, I wish him luck.

For the record, his name is Mats. One T. If you are truly from Toronto, you should be ashamed you still don't know how it is spelled.

Sundin was loved in Toronto, but hated outside of the GTA.

Hello??? You bet he made the right move. And it's hilarious to read all these cry baby Leaf fans who think they're the centre of the Universe in TO. Haha and your stuck with Brian Burke as well. Good luck with that. 'Nucks going deep in the playoffs this year.

john:

Interesting to see a Leaf hater jumping on the Sundin bandwagon. He has been loved in Leaf Nation since his arrival, so I'm not sure what you're talking about in your opening comments. Welcome to the club.

Many NHL cities can only sit back and wish for a fan base as great and as loyal as Toronto's.

Let me guess - you're a Sens fan. Hilarious that Melnyk thought he had a shot at Matts - why would a class act like Matts ever hook up with a classless organization that is clearly on the decline.

It's a good thing there's a cap cause the Rangers would have paid him 12 to 14 million.I have a hars time for any player getting paid that amount but thats what happens when you think this guy will win us the Stanley Cup.I doubt it at this time but we will see at the end of this season.Mats has averaged over a point a game and thats with no talented players on his left wing.So I say if it works out for him out there he'll fly...This guy is a gentlemen and i don't feel betrayed by him at all.The stupid one is Fergeson for having a no trade clause on alot of his players.Good luck Mats and don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.I've read uite a few comments out here and i tell some of you have no clue what your talking about ,anyways ...later!
