Will you cheer or jeer Sundin?
Wed, January 7, 2009

TERRY JONES, SUN MEDIA

The world's most expensive hockey rental player, the subject of one of the sorriest "national" sports soap operas of all time, is going to be a major event here tonight, a feature photo-op of this entire NHL season.

Mats Sundin, after practice in Vancouver, gave himself the green light, boarded the flight and arrived here yesterday with the Canucks preparing to play in tonight's tilt against the Edmonton Oilers.

Will you cheer or jeer Sundin's return to the NHL? Have your say in our forum.

Sundin could make Canucks debut against Oilers

Why don't the leafs provide a deadline to Matts, you have 72 hours to give us an answer Matts, after that we are going to move on and any and all offers are off the table.By prolonging this the Leafs are missing out in signing a quality player that possibily could help them make the playoffs....this would put a stop to the ongoing soap opera, allow the players and management to focus on iceing a winning team, c'mon Toronto brass, get some balls and get on with it........

What shoud Mats do? Now that is a good question. Imagine a man who is offered $10 million dollars for his services and he cant make up his mind what to do. Take into account he has already been paid extremely large salaries and never achieved the leadership role expected for that amount of money. He has never taken the Leafs very far in the playoffs, only scored a few goals when things didnt matter.

I think he should stay home in Sweeden and never show his face around North America again. I can't imagine some teams still wanting him to play. It goes to show you the inmates are running the asalymn. Can you imagine how long someone like Kevin Lowe or Sutter would put up with Sundin.

My point is let him stay home and give his spot to some kid from Saskatchewan who wants to play. Goodbye Sundin quit baiting the inmates.

He should grab the 20 million, play with the Sedin sisters and he can be fishing again by early April of next year. If he signs with the Habs, he might have to play hockey into June and we know he's not much into that.

This is pathetic. If Sundin had any interest in playing anywhere he'd have said so by now. His heart obviously isn't in it anymore, so forget about him and move on.

I think it is time for Sundin to come clean for the Leafs. They have been very accommodating to him and he is not showing much respect by dragging this out. It doesn't take all summer to decide what you want to do.

Hi,

If Mats Sundin was such a great hockey player, why did the Toronto Maple Leafs end up licking everyone's rear ends last season?

Do you,"Sundin" fans think he cares about you eh? by the way he is playing this mind game with the teams?

I do not like him anyway, but I feel sorry for his devoted fans whom it is clear he does not care about.

Sundin? take the rest of your life off.Your fans will lose you like you lost them.

Sundin isn't the one drawing this story out, it's the media that continues to stir it up all the time because there is nothing else to talk about.
Jeff, 2008-08-05 03:52:38

I finally got it! This story is really about Mats FAVRE or BRETT Sundin!!!!

It's a slow SPORTS NEWS summer in old T.O. The Leafs burned out, the Raptors tanked out, the Blue Jays sank to the bottom, and the Argos are so-so. The Sundin story has become soooooooo boring! You would think that the country was talking about a multiple Stanley Cup Champion the way the Toronto media is drumming up and regurgitating this nonsense, perpetuated mostly TSN, I might add. This is now a non-story. Oh and by the way, why was there an NHL lock-out in the first place? The salaries were getting too high, that's why! Today the players are getting paid more, the game tickets cost more and the salary cap has increased every year since the lock-out. The players are now free agents earlier in their careers that result in no loyalty to any team or city or its fans. Way to go Gary Bettman! Thinking of the fans again! NOT! So we distract the fans by continuing this nonsense about one over-the-hill player to take away the focus of how inept an organization such as the Leafs has been rendered as part of the new NHL System after the lock-out. There assuredly will be more of the same to come!

I think that he wants to pull off a Peter Forsberg Gambit. He wants to take the first half of the season off and then go to the highest bidder that has a chance at winning the Stanley Cup. That way he works (plays?) only half the season and gets the maximum bang for the buck. He should just retire and go away into the darkness!
