Will you cheer or jeer Sundin?
Wed, January 7, 2009

TERRY JONES, SUN MEDIA

The world's most expensive hockey rental player, the subject of one of the sorriest "national" sports soap operas of all time, is going to be a major event here tonight, a feature photo-op of this entire NHL season.

Mats Sundin, after practice in Vancouver, gave himself the green light, boarded the flight and arrived here yesterday with the Canucks preparing to play in tonight's tilt against the Edmonton Oilers.

Will you cheer or jeer Sundin's return to the NHL? Have your say in our forum.

Sundin could make Canucks debut against Oilers

ENOUGH already. Who gives a rat's patootie outside of idiots willing to fork over $10 mill per for an aging European with a trick hip!

The way the Toronto media is writing up Sundin and McCabe stories ad nauseum is a clear indication that, essentially, they have pucks for brains in the Big Haze.

I also can't believe the Florida owners are going to let Black Jacques Martin commit to three years at over $5 mill per for a D who not only is becoming a little long in the tooth himself, but who clearly tinks defence is de ting dat closes off de yard.

Sound to me more like wishful thinking on the part of the Toronto media. No GM in his right mind would take on an albatross contract the Leafs are desperately trying to shed.

Really J? The Leafs haven't won a playoff series in the past eight years? Could have fooled me. I haven't been the most impressed with the leafs and I've expessed certain things I didn't agree with but I'm pretty tired of hearing arguments that are unfounded. The leafs were eliminated in the second round in 2004 by the flyers most recently and made the eastern conference finals in 2002. The Leafs aquired Sundin in 1994...If you're going to spit on this team and make jokes then atleast have some information to back it up.Sundin has lead the Leafs in points every year since he was aquired with the exception of one season so the least we can do is not belittle him and all the years of effort he's put in.

Him and his massive ego should poop or get off the pot, just who does this guy think he is? If you are a Leafs fan you don't want him back he would be the difference between possibly finishing last and 25th or so. Let the Leafs do something right for ONCE in 40 years finish last! the other ego manic is settled in New York as a Jet now lets get this guy out of the news too!! oh and thank you finally chuck swirsky is gone!! now just need to get Kyrpreos and Maquire off the air and we will be set!!

retire-who wants someone who is not motivated to play. Many kids are dying to make it to the Bigs move aside and let someone who wants to be there be there.End of story bye Mats thanks for your hard work

Bob:

I agree with you for the most part - prime example being Alfie (as sweet as Bell's hit was it would have been nice to see Alfie be more of a man in that circumstance, fire the puck at the opposing captain when there's nothing else he can do to get his team back in the game, numerous hits from behind, etc.)

However, Detroit is thick with Swedish meatballs and it's tough to classify that group as chickens.

I have been a leaf fan for 40+ yrs and a Sundin fan since he joined the team. I think Sundin is one of the best players in the world but was never given a chance in TO as he was saddled with 2nd rate wingers.I would love to see him play anywhere in the NHL with quality wingers so the world could see just how good this guy really is.

Retire already!!! We have enough chicken Swedes in the NHL.
