Will you cheer or jeer Sundin?
Wed, January 7, 2009

TERRY JONES, SUN MEDIA

The world's most expensive hockey rental player, the subject of one of the sorriest "national" sports soap operas of all time, is going to be a major event here tonight, a feature photo-op of this entire NHL season.

Mats Sundin, after practice in Vancouver, gave himself the green light, boarded the flight and arrived here yesterday with the Canucks preparing to play in tonight's tilt against the Edmonton Oilers.

Will you cheer or jeer Sundin's return to the NHL? Have your say in our forum.

Sundin could make Canucks debut against Oilers

I'll be cheering for Mats for sure! A great player who still has the skills to contribute. Last year he scored 32 goals, 78 points, and was a plus 17 on a team that once again didn't even make the playoffs! Gee I wonder why he didn't want to come back? Sundin also didn't ask for all the media attention which is totally out of his control. He took his time to make a decision and that is his prerogative. If fans "didn't care" as so many like to claim, the coverage wouldn't be to the extent it is. How hypocritical to claim to be tired of something and yet take the time to send in your comments!

Go Mats Go!

Suck it up Loafs fans. The man gave you 14 seasons of pretty good shinny - and set a lot of team records along the way.

Pretend you have some class and say "thanks" by cheering him.

We have been overloaded with Sundin crap for way to long. It is two bad the canucks were suckered into signing this guy. Send him back to Europe!

Sundin owes you nothing you whiners. It's business, let him make whatever deal he can. If the managment is dumb enough to accept it, it's their own problem. That said, I think the Canucks have again paid too much for an old guy who won't be able to play as he used to. Years ago they were saying the same thing, we need a centre who can provide some leadership and grit, so they went and hired Messier. A great guy but not worth the 6 mill per season he was pulling down at that point. Groin pull.......

my goodness, Leaf fans are a bitter bunch. Even if you really think Sundin did something less than honest in dealing with Leafs management, you would think that he should be a hero. The Leafs organization has been screwing over it's blind, faithful fans for so long it's about time they got a little of their own medicine. But, keep clinging to the Blue and White, you seem to like the arrangement. As you are tired of Mats, the rest of Canada is tired of you.

Soooo...Mr. MeMeMe Mats has FINALLY decided on HIS TERMS that he will step on NHL ice again...after all of the HYPOCRISY and the sordid soap opera he put us through...Well let us hope it is the LAST time he will ever step on NHL ice. A nice torn ACL & MCL would be a most fitting end to one of the most over-rated pro athletes in sports history!

This is getting sick, correction, already sick.Who cares about Sundin? Vancouver will not make the playoffs with him in the line up. What a waste of money they could have gotten a much superior player for less dollars.

I am so sick of this jerk. I honestly hope that someone Bobby Clarks his knee and we never ever hear from him again.

Two faced jerk is all he is.

Sundin screwed Toronto. Plain and simple. He knew that the outcome of his actions would be that there would be nothing in it for Toronto. It could have been any team, but it happened to be the Leafs. Toronto had many great players leave in the past, but it was through trades. Toronto got NOTHING for Sundin. NOTHING. I don't know how much memories are worth, but I get a bad taste in my mouth when ever I see him on TV now. I believe there needs to be a time limit on how long a free agent can sit out.
