Will you cheer or jeer Sundin?
Wed, January 7, 2009

TERRY JONES, SUN MEDIA

The world's most expensive hockey rental player, the subject of one of the sorriest "national" sports soap operas of all time, is going to be a major event here tonight, a feature photo-op of this entire NHL season.

Mats Sundin, after practice in Vancouver, gave himself the green light, boarded the flight and arrived here yesterday with the Canucks preparing to play in tonight's tilt against the Edmonton Oilers.

Will you cheer or jeer Sundin's return to the NHL? Have your say in our forum.

Mats should stay exactly where he is, in Laff Land. He and his lack of leadership fit right in and just continue the saga of the biggest joke in pro sports, that being the Toronto Make Me Laffs.

Thanks for the memories and upcoming season of laffs, I can't wait to see the response of Laff fans! Priceless.

I've always beleafed that Mats would stay to the end,,,he has always thanked his fans & now his fans are left in the dark. I must say this is the first time I've been disappointed that it's either what to be a true blue leaf or not. We love you Mats - Make the right choice - your home is here in Toronto, every game you played your fans cheered you on !!! Don't let us down now ,,,,,Go leafs go

Sundin back up what he actingsaid, play with Toronto stop actinge .or retire.he,s my favourite player,it,s gone on to long.

Well Mats, are we a rent a player now? You said you did not beleive in "rent a players," but by joining a team part way through the season is just that.

Last year you said that to win a cup, you wanted to be there from the start to the finish - enjoy the journey. Well this won't happen when you show up in January or March. Maybe you should ask Forsberg how that worked out.

Don't get me wrong, I love Mats as a leaf. There has not been any better leaf since Clarke or Gilmour, but to go back on all you have said over the last several years. The talk of never wearing any other sweater, ending your career as a leaf. Maybe that was all crap. If you didn't mean any of that, then why not wave the no-trade.

Sorry, but as an embarassed leaf fan, I am at the end of this pointless passion. Why should I waste my energy on this team when so-called management does not care, and now the only hero out there is two faced...

I don't have anything left to give for this group of losers...

Mats Sundin hits the ice at PokerStars

Go to Sweden. Go to Toronto. Go anywhere where people know about hockey. You'll be hard-pressed to find anyone who doesn't know the name Mats Sundin. Soon, that reputation will carry over from the ice to the PokerStars tables.

Hockey icon and former Toronto Maple Leaf captain Mats Sundin has just joined PokerStars as one of its international celebrity ambassadors. You'll soon see him both online at PokerStars under the name “MatsSundin” and live at PokerStars-sponsored events, including on the European Poker Tour which kicks off next week in Barcelona.

Sundin has played in the NHL for the Quebec Nordiques and Toronto Maple Leafs where he served as the longest-running non-North American captain in NHL history. He was also the first Swedish player to score 500 goals. Sundin has played for Sweden in international events, including three Winter Olympics where he won five medals - three of them gold.

A long time card player, Sundin said, “I have always enjoyed playing poker and partnering with PokerStars gives me the opportunity to challenge myself and explore the full potential of my game. I believe the fighting spirit I’ve developed as a hockey pro will really help me at the tables."

Sundin is also an ambassador for the United Nations’ “No More Land Mines” appeal and will be donating his profits earned at the poker tables to charitable and good causes.

“I am very proud to become an ambassador for PokerStars. It means I will be more able to fulfill my personal ambition of working with charities around the world and I will be donating 100 percent of the money I earn from playing poker to charity," he said. "For me, the combination of excitement and challenge in poker, plus the potential to support good causes is a win-win situation."

Cliff should just go ahead and use the cap room created by Mats absence to acquire a couple of good young forwards. Personally, I would rather have the media cool its heels until there is something to report.
Ward, 2008-09-03 20:34:31

Enough!! He SHOULD make a decision. He’s supposed to be a “leader” in the dressing room. Well, anyone who can’t make a decision is no leader. In fact, he’s a pain in the buttocks.

Leaders lead. Followers follow. Egocentrics seek the spotlight. I’m sorry, but Mats is wrapped up in his self importance.

Retire and be done with it! Let's move on.

Timbo, Mats Sundin is an unrestricted free agent. He doesn't have a team to report to.

He can't be suspended.
someone, 2008-09-03 19:21:08

cliff cant suspend him, hes not under contract with the leafs right now, leafs should just move on and spend the money elsewere
