Will you cheer or jeer Sundin?
Wed, January 7, 2009

TERRY JONES, SUN MEDIA

The world's most expensive hockey rental player, the subject of one of the sorriest "national" sports soap operas of all time, is going to be a major event here tonight, a feature photo-op of this entire NHL season.

Mats Sundin, after practice in Vancouver, gave himself the green light, boarded the flight and arrived here yesterday with the Canucks preparing to play in tonight's tilt against the Edmonton Oilers.

Will you cheer or jeer Sundin's return to the NHL? Have your say in our forum.

Sundin could make Canucks debut against Oilers

Sundin...let it go! He won't win you a cup and surely not in Toronto.. Leafs Nation should realize that this franchise is doomed for a long time still! Go Habs

This is getting to be like the movie, Groundhog Day.

Maybe if the media and the NHL GM's ignore him he'll just go away.

Honestly. Who wants a player on their team that starts the season on his timetable?
Probert, 2008-11-03 21:35:30

Dont care where he signs. I agree with one of your previous comments: As a season ticket holder, I'll gladly be booooing him when hes at the acc next

This is old old old news, the league started a few weeks ago. Get his ugly mug off the internet and lets get on with who is playing not with who wants attention. You reporters sure are hard up for a story.

I'd be surprised to see him go with Ottawa but stranger things have happened. The Sens are a team heading in the wrong direction, and have been since mid-season 07/08.

If the Leafs and Sundin are still considering his return, I agree that the Leafs should have a different focus now with the development of young players, and future draft picks available to them.

The Habs would have been a good spot for Mats but it looks like Gainey has moved on without him, and I'm not sure he should mess with the obvious chemistry the team has shown so far this season. I'd be surprised if we don't see Montreal winning the eastern conference with or without Mats.

I'd like to see Mats in Vancouver myself.

Mats, if you sign with anybody, i hope it won't be the Hens!

Well if Simmons article this weekend holds ANY merit? (and for him to put it in print, it better hold water) then that MAY alleviate any speculation of him returning to a Canadian team. As he will get a healthy cheque from the government based on some loophole for European players, not sure why it’s the first we have heard of it though, maybe because Simmons is an idiot as well?? However it depends how much money we are talking about, either way returning to Toronto goes completely against what MLSE is stating they are striving for, I personally don't want him back here and I have stated this here for many reasons. Bottom line move on you are NOT Gretzky (nobody is) you are not even in the same league.. so get over yourself and make a decision so the media can go on with newsworthy stories..

I just wonder if he would put his whole heart into it if he does come back. Look at comments he has made in the recent past...

"I never believed in rent-a-player to start with," Sundin said to Leaf reporters, just prior to the Feb. 26 trade deadline. "If you want to be a part of a team that has a chance to win a Stanley Cup, or a team that is going far in the playoffs, my opinion has always been that you want to be there from training camp, be there the whole season, part of the group."

"I didn't sign a one-year deal last summer to (better accommodate a trade), I want to be a Leaf."

"I'm 31 years old and I want to be part of a championship team before my career is over."

So what's he gonna do? Don't know, but I hope he doesn't sign with the Sens.

Sundin has earned this time and choice. Love to see him stay on a Candian team... and either the Habs or the Sens could use him the best right now.
