Will you cheer or jeer Sundin?
Wed, January 7, 2009

TERRY JONES, SUN MEDIA

The world's most expensive hockey rental player, the subject of one of the sorriest "national" sports soap operas of all time, is going to be a major event here tonight, a feature photo-op of this entire NHL season.

Mats Sundin, after practice in Vancouver, gave himself the green light, boarded the flight and arrived here yesterday with the Canucks preparing to play in tonight's tilt against the Edmonton Oilers.

Will you cheer or jeer Sundin's return to the NHL? Have your say in our forum.

Sundin could make Canucks debut against Oilers

Very late in the game? I agree with the others who cares.

If your not going to show up at the beginning of the season and play like everyone else what's the point?

Really? who cares. obviously, he feels he is worth whatever it is being offered to sit back and doing nothing. I think he'd wait until february if possible just to get the money to play. So much for "the love of the sport". I think at this point it's all mute where Sundin goes...

No one really cares anymore. This is a guy who said he wouldn't be a rental player and that's exactly what he has made himself.

He really isn't as important as he thinks he is.

Go away MATT, no one really cares.

Who gives a... Most overplayed, overhyped, over discussed hockey topic since the invention of the forward pass. Hockey media have embarassd themselves covering this non - story to death. Based on the past history of other players who attempted this type of come back it will be a flop - see Peter Forsberg. What a soap opera

Whereever he goes sur the team will be better; but no guarantee that he will bring that team a to Stanley Cup. And frankly I wish the league will make rules about UFA and deadlines...these older players who come back and poick and choose the team or "flavour" of the year is not right!

Rangers or Canucks, neither team will go far in the playoffs,so Mats will have a real short season no matter what team he picks. The decision should be simple,if he wants bright lights go to Broadway,if he wants money go to Vancouver.

To be quite honest with you I just wish he would " go away"! This Sundin saga has gone on for way too long and I for one am getting sick of hearing about it. I am a Leafs fan and he was a great Leaf....but he has done nothing but hurt this young team by not dropping his No Trade clause last year...thus allowing the Leafs something in return. Now he is acting like a little kid and just playing with the whole league. Mats Sundin is not bigger then the whole NHL....he just thinks he is and that is a shame. For Gods sake Mats....get this over with so we can stop hearing about this day in and day out. You are 38 yeras old...not much left in the tank...just go home to Sweden and count your money and play Poker. You do not se a great hockey player like Brendan Shanahan acting like this....and to be truthful he could...but he has too much class to do so. Good for you Brendan....could you please give Mats a call and teach him a thing or two about "Class". Sign a damn contract with someone and move on...there is much more going on in this world then the " Mats Sundin Show". Grow up and start acting like a star with some class...we are all sick of hearing about this...move on or just move over!!

thank you Henry, I agree with you on Leaf fans dedication. Seems to be Toronto fans in general though. They were chanting MVP for Chris Bosh two weeks ago and suddenly now booing him last night for one bad game (reminds one of what happened to Vince Carter?) The ONLY reason why Mats is getting criticised is because he is Swedish. Toronto sports fans love to boo outgoing European hockey players and black basketball players no matter how much they contributed to the team and city, yet when Darcy Tucker goes back for the Avs-Leafs game he will probably get a standing ovation. If a Canadian guy like Clark or Gilmour held out half the year for the highest bidder and then showed up in Toronto with an enemy uniform, leaf fans would be lining up to kiss their feet.

GO play in Russia Sundin. If you were so dedicated to Toronto you would have waved the no trade and got the Leafs a ton of prospects.A leader you are not. Tough deciding on a new country club to join.I just hope the Leafs management doesn't ever decide to hand your jersey in the rafter at ACC there were many more players more dedicated than you.Do whats best for hockey go home and watch real dedicated hockey players play on tv. Don't want to be a rental player. Words that will come back to haunt you forever.Too bad you weren't a leader like Clark or Gilmour, now thats heart and dedication.

He wouldn't wave his no trade clause last year because he says he is true blue and white. Now he wants to play and the Leafs don't get anything for him. What a goof. I hope he gets booed out of the Air Canada Centre when the Rangers or Canucks play in Toronto in Feb.
