Will you cheer or jeer Sundin?
Wed, January 7, 2009

TERRY JONES, SUN MEDIA

The world's most expensive hockey rental player, the subject of one of the sorriest "national" sports soap operas of all time, is going to be a major event here tonight, a feature photo-op of this entire NHL season.

Mats Sundin, after practice in Vancouver, gave himself the green light, boarded the flight and arrived here yesterday with the Canucks preparing to play in tonight's tilt against the Edmonton Oilers.

Will you cheer or jeer Sundin's return to the NHL? Have your say in our forum.

Sundin could make Canucks debut against Oilers

Leaf no more!!

I am a Leaf fan who has lost all respect for Mats Sundin.

A Canuck, ughhh!! Of course it didn't matter where he went I am still disgusted.

In my mind he owed the club nothing but he certainly owed the fans of Toronto and we are the ones most hurt by the way this has all panned out.

He was the captain and leader of this team and he knew full well the club had to rebuild and then he decides to leave in this fashion with zero regard for the fans.

To leave without allowing the club to get something in return for him, stating that he doesn't believe in the concept of a rental player only to return in this rental fashion makes me barf.

In the end it came down to what was best for him and there was no regard for the fans therefor in my books he takes a back seat to Armstrong, Keon, Sittler, Vaive, Clark and Gilmour.

That is the way I feel and there is nothing Sundin can do about it now.

Go Sharks go!!

See ya later, moving on., 2008-12-19 10:22:23

Mats Sundin = down right dirty liar.

Break a leg Mats!

Thank you Mats for choosing a Canadian team. Look forward to seeing you add your special touch in Vancouver. I know it wasnt all about the money. Some year I hope to see your jersey raised to the rafters in blue. Now, as we said as kids!

"Play- On"

I am pleased this saga is ended. I did not approve of the way Sundin handled the thing especially with the Leafs. I felt his attitude should have been a warning to whoever he joins that his heart is not really in it and this looks like a retirement fund raiser to me.

If he wanted a Stanley cup them he should have gone with an eastern coast team as they have clearly the better chances this year but time will tell.

He probably felt that the west coast would be a quieter place to be with less press coverage than the east coast. I don't have any bad feelings as he tried his best with the leafs.

This is strictly a 2010 Olympic move. He wants a gold medal and is there to mentor to Sedin sisters and get well paid for it. It wouldn't surprise me if he is also being compensated by the Swedish Government.

Whooo...Cares....

I am amazed that the sporting world has been so boring this guy has gotten so much attention.

Sundin made out like a bandit for what he will provide to the Canucks.

He brings with him a satisfaction of being on a losing team. Not someone that I would be willing to sell the farm for.

He will make Vancouver better, but he wouldn't know where to begin in a drive for a cup.

I am just so glad this is over.

I am sick of all these old timers taking half the season off. If you aren't conditioned enough to play the full season...then don't play at all.

The NHL has to put a stop to this. It belittles the league. Either full season or not at all!
Sick and Tired, 2008-12-19 09:19:30

Heck no....he should of waited til March. Then seen what team had the best chance of winning the cup and signed with them! Can we now drop this whole subject!!! Sundin is a BUM!
Enough!, 2008-12-19 08:47:01

Did he make the right move? Depends on what he was moving towards. Winning a cup with the Canucks? Teehee....not a chance. Raking in big bucks? Yes definately the right move.

Well, Mats is a smart man takin 10 million to golf, now thats a christmas present, and of all teams to choose, he picks the worst team of all time! no playoffs this year!
Aaron Zimmerman, 2008-12-19 08:21:01

sellout. He should have went to a cup contender... instead he took the money, he probably didnt want to play the full season so now he gets half a season with Canucks and a full salary? haha.

He was a great player and glad he didnt go back to TO after how they treated him and the insulting comments of Wilson.

Good retirement bonus tho.
