Will you cheer or jeer Sundin?
Wed, January 7, 2009

TERRY JONES, SUN MEDIA

The world's most expensive hockey rental player, the subject of one of the sorriest "national" sports soap operas of all time, is going to be a major event here tonight, a feature photo-op of this entire NHL season.

Mats Sundin, after practice in Vancouver, gave himself the green light, boarded the flight and arrived here yesterday with the Canucks preparing to play in tonight's tilt against the Edmonton Oilers.

Will you cheer or jeer Sundin's return to the NHL? Have your say in our forum.

Sundin could make Canucks debut against Oilers

Quite a lot of money for half a season... I doubt he'll be worth the money.

There sure a lot of bitter Leafs fans out there. I am a lifelong Leaf fan that does not see anything wrong with the way Mats left the Leafs, except the way management treated one of the best ever and the way "fans" are now slamming him. What loyalty did the Leafs show him? Did they offer him a fond farewell and a promise to bring him back into the fold after his playing career? Did they offer him a chance to finally win the Cup? Did they promise to finally provide some players to suppliment his talent? As for "owing" the fans...get over it, the TEAM treated him as a commodity and that was all.

I am a huge Toronto basher, but I don't have to bash the city or the people, Matts you did it for me, I hope you fail miserably in Vancouver, you money hungry non backchecking slob!!!!!

After all this saga with Sundin wears off the the sports news will report what is really going to happen and that is bankruptcy with a number of teams in the states, it's coming, hear me now and believe me later, besides the flames will definitely put him through the boards when they get a chance and I'll take all bets that big Matts is going to be injured, not through dirty play just to much time off from playing, somebodys going to catch him with his head down, I give him 2 months before he's on the injured reserve list, you can count on that......

Sundin was nothing but a class act during his time with the Leafs, and I am sure he will be the same in Vancouver. To read what a lot of you have wrote makes me sick. Who cares if he went for the money, or that it isn't a place where he is going to win the cup. He played with heart in Toronto, and was always positive. All the best to Mats in Vancouver, you deserve better than the fickle fans of Toronto.

Blah Blah Blah...who the heck cares. I'm tired of hearing about this guy. Wait and see....he's not worth all that money.

Would like to see his "happy ending" end like cujo's did when he went to detroit. End up with nothin, no ring and no cup. Pray there's no movie made of this joke.

Whew! Glad thats over, now maybe we can have a break from the media beating this story to death.Don't let Mats fool you,he went for the money as most anyone would do.5 plus million for a few months work, then back to the golf course, what a life!

Great for Sundin....now he will have a couple of guys with skill to play with instead of the 3rd and 4th line players he's had most of his career. He's staying in Canada which is a bonus. He's a nice guy, a great player...a team player...what else can you say. Good luck to Mats
