Will you cheer or jeer Sundin?
Wed, January 7, 2009

TERRY JONES, SUN MEDIA

The world's most expensive hockey rental player, the subject of one of the sorriest "national" sports soap operas of all time, is going to be a major event here tonight, a feature photo-op of this entire NHL season.

Mats Sundin, after practice in Vancouver, gave himself the green light, boarded the flight and arrived here yesterday with the Canucks preparing to play in tonight's tilt against the Edmonton Oilers.

Will you cheer or jeer Sundin's return to the NHL? Have your say in our forum.

Sundin could make Canucks debut against Oilers

Cheering should be left for extraordinary events or people hat have done extraordinary thins. Mats did what he was suppose to do while he played for the Leafs. He gave his best on any given night but I can't think of any thing outstanding. Not like,Sittlers 10 points, Clark standing up for Gilmour, Bauns broken foot, etc.

As for Sundin, I don't think of him as a great leader, like Messier,Clark or Iginla. So tonight neither cheer nor jeer, for he is just another player on another team.

I know the circumstances are different. However, Naslund wouldn't except lesser money to return with the Canucks. However, as one of the best ever to wear a Canucks uniform I'd cheer his return to GM place. If/When Sundin goes to the HOF, he'll be going in as a Leaf. Just remember that!

"Stayed for the good of the team"?? What a crock. The team was going no where as usual. If he wanted to do something for the team, take the trade last season, let the team get something for him and then come back in the summer. And all the crap this year about where he's going to play. Good riddance and move on.

hahaha Honestly sundine is a bum, he really never was anything to special he only stood out because they had nobody else on the team that was any good. To be honest I think he was probably the worst thing that ever happend to the leafs, if your there throw whatever you can, this guy is just a little girl with little to no talent get out of hockey sundin your a bum

I will cheer. Since he became a Leaf player, he led the team in scoring, produced points/assists when no one else in the team could NOT do anything, missed only a handful of games due to injuries. But he played even if he could take the pain. Remember how he played even with a stitched-up face and a nearly swollen shut eye? He never sulked like how other players did on their way out of Toronto. And for so-called fans who will boo him tomorrow, that's their reason for not being Maple Leafs player.

" Sell crazy someplace else Mats, we're all stocked up here"
Brian O'Callaghan, 2009-02-20 20:44:21

If i never heard Mats Sundin's name ever again it would be awesome! You Leaf fan's need to get a life .Your team has finally after many years of incompetant mismanagement ,finally made a move in the right direction and all you people can do is dwell on a dismel passed and on a player that is now playing for a team on the other side of the country.Let it go and talk about your Leafs and that they may finally have a bright future.

Why the hell would anyone even consider booing Mats. After all he has done for the Leafs. He carried not only the leafs and the city of Toronto on his shoulders, but the center of the whole hockey universe. And he did so with considerable patience, poise, and strength/skill throughout the good and the bad times.

He was only doing what he thought was best for himself and the team. Honestly whay would we boo Mats? Lets not sink, or lower ourselves to the of those cannibalistic habs fans (no offense, but you habs fans are crazy when it comes to booing your own).

Fingers,

The guy stayed out of loyalty to the team and you are willing to throw stuff at him because he wasn't willing to lie to another team and help the Leafs scam them out of some draft picks? I don't think you get what integrity is all about.

Because he wouldn't lie, you call him a lier. Greedy, because he took less money to stay with the Leafs. Selfish because of what? Not compromising his integrity for the team? Since the fans show no loyalty to him, why should he stoop to their level?

This is all a crock anyone who thinks that Sundin after giving his career to the Leafs somehow owed it to the fans to find his own replacement in a deal is an idiot. The organization is in deep trouble if they have to boo their former heroes. A few years ago guys were lining up to come play in Toronto but now I wouldn't sign there if I had a choice.

This is for people who think Sundin set the Laffs back by not waiving his no trade clause and in turn the Laffs would get draft picks or young prospects in return. WAKE THE HECK UP!

It's not a players job to look after the future of the team. He honored his contract! If you want someone to blame, blame the previous GM who gave all these bums a no trade clause! Sundin is not at fault, anyone who doesn't this aren't hockey fans, they're Leaf fans. Two different types.
