Do NHL players give the Stanley Cup enough respect?

I don't really care; it's not something to be worshipped.

When you win the Cup, you get to do what you want with it; that's become the tradition.
Eating out of something that's been crapped in, now that's wrong.

It's always been used as the centrepiece at parties by the winning team. I understand they are trying to draw more fans by having Messier show up at your home with it and by giving each player a chance to take it to their hometown, but I do think they go overboard. Same with the recent Stanley cup celebrations. Lately the families and children of the winning teams crowd the ice and the dressing rooms after games. It's hard to let loose with someone's three year old beside you and I'd pass on the champagne drinking if anything with a diaper gets near the Cup.

No. It doesn't get any respect at all. There are too many morons treating it with disrespect. Too many people fought too hard over the years and haven't won it. The winners should feel privileged and an honour to be able to just touch it!

Wow!!!!!
Talk about desperate for a "story".
One would have to hope that the "cereal eating" episode took place prior to the "pooping".
Gives a whole new meaning to the expression "crappy cereal" now does it.
Next question,PLEASE !!!

Most of the players do give the Stanley Cup respect. It a shame that some don't relize how far back the History is of Lord Stanley, Stanley's Cup, or how far back the History of the NHL is actually. There was a time even when people didn't give a damn about hockey and wanted to see it fold. Actually some people still wnat to see the NHL fold for other reasons now
So what if Derek Meech ate ceral out of the Stanley Cup. That was a great and funny commerical. They drink Chapaine out of the cup which is customary may I ask. How is that different??
However defowoling the cup by urinating or whatever else well thats uncalled for such as setting it on fire, Throwing it around like a baseball, leaving it in a strip club, In a compact trunk. etc thats uncalled for.
