The NHL has warned feuding general managers Kevin Lowe and Brian Burke that they need to end their public dispute or face significant fines.

The warning for Edmonton’s Lowe and Anaheim’s Burke came during a conference call with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, deputy commissioner Bill Daly and executive vice-president Colin Campbell.

Burke criticism’s of Lowe began last July after the Oilers made a US$21.25-million, five-year offer sheet to restricted free agent Dustin Penner and the Ducks did not match it. Burke has repeatedly blamed Lowe and the Penner offer sheet for spiralling salaries on young restricted free agents.

Lowe finally shot back at Burke on July 4 during an interview that included some stinging comments about the Anaheim GM on Edmonton radio station The Team 1260.

Merth, great comments, I would however offer that Lowe has six stanley cup rings, five with Edmonton and one with the Rangers. I must add one other thing, Burke is not a tool, a tool has a use, Burke is uselss.

Burke is a friggen loudmouth media junkie, exactly like Lowe said, Lowe did nothing against the rules of the leauge, i can't wait till burkje goes to toronto, he'll fit in perfectly with all the loud mouth no nothings in that organization!!!

Burke is a tool, and Lowe is a five-time Stanley Cup champion. Lowe is just defending himself. Burke is jealous of Lowe's accomplishments and is shooting his mouth off trying to save face. Bettman should have muzzled Burke long before this recent outburst. Burke grow up.

Is it not interesting that the NHL aka Bettman, finally steps in and decides the fued is detrimental to the league only after Lowe finally defends himself. For almost an entire year the league allowed it's management bully/golden boy Burke to spew anything he wanted. When will they temper Bobby Clarke? Bettman face it your just a puppet and you should shut the hell up.
