How do you feel about Don Cherry?
Sun, July 6, 2008

There are few Canadian public figures as polarizing as Don Cherry.

You either love him or you hate him.

And what’s not to love?

Grapes is pure entertainment.

Don Cherry is the salt of the earth! He's a man's man who's not afraid to speak his mind. I sure as hell would like him on my team. You couldn't find a more patriotic, honest, loveable old curmudgeon! God bless him!

Thumbs-up to Cherry! A blue collar guy who made something of himself.

I don't necessarily agree with everything he says, but hey, he's the one with the air time and not me.

He acknowledges our troops overseas - when most people

choose to forget: so I can forgive him at the times he's gone awol on certain issues.

He for a hard tough game, but for keeping it clean with the elbows, sticks, and the hitting from behind.

As for the contreversy, at least he airs his laundry on national TV and he's taken his lumps when wrong.

To his detractors, I say this: You don't have to agree with him, but for the good things he does, Don Cherry should have respect.

Thumbs-up Don!

Don Cherry's cameo appearances on ESPN during this years playoffs got as much talk around the water cooler as the games. I am purchasing Centre Ice on my dish next season so I won't miss Coaches Corner. In my travels from the midwest to the Detroit area for junior hockey I made sure I got back to the motel room to catch Coaches Corner. It was always the highlight of the road trip. Cherry's Rock 'em, Sock 'em videos are priceless. The man has a heart of gold and is, at the very least, entertaining. You can't take that away from him.

Forget PM, Cherry For President!! He's gotta be better than the two they've trotted out this time around in the States.

First of all i stopped watching hnic because i call it leafs hockey. At about 8:35 i do turn the t.v for coaches corner because of the don of hockey.

It gets boring reading comments about him being redneck. May be they should replace him with a middle eastern person or some separtest from quebec. If they get rid of don then i won't have any reason to watch c.b.c you have a fan here don keep it up

Don Cherry is the epitomy of HNIC, He's the Harold Ballard of yesteryear. Tell it like it is.No holds barred, who the hell cares kinda hockey. Some fool posted earlier about if Cherry leaves the goons go as well...come on now ya slow swimming hay eating donkey....goons have been part of hockey since the inception of hockey...Don Cherry is an icon...no matter how ya look at it ...he knows hockey....he epitomizes what "true" hockey is all about.....he supports the troups and he stands up for his own beliefs.... I'd ponder a bet that he can even spell Gretzky correctly...

Some ask why Don Cherry hasnt been awarded the Order of Canada. Easily answered. He has too many strikes aginst him. He supports our military....he's patriotic...he advocates hockey as a contact sport...he believes in Canadian hockey players getting paid to play hockey in Canada...he dresses loudly...the powers in the CBC dont like him because he's a beer and a shot guy...probably more. He ought to try killing babies lile Dr Morgenteler. That's how u get lionized in this country. We ought to rename it. Something close so we can pronounce it. I've got it. Why dont we call it "Candyass' instead of 'Canada'?

More importantly, what's the latest on Mats Sundin?
Tim, 2008-07-06 17:53:12

Two words. Red. Neck. (Yes I know it's one word).
Tim, 2008-07-06 17:42:29

Not the biggest fan of Cherry by any means, but i've gotta give the man due credits.Sure, he can be annoying at times, and his choice of wardrobe should be worthy of a few episodes of "What not to wear",but the man's not affraid to speak his mind...and at times, can be hilarious (if you've got any sense of humor, that is).Besides..who would the CBC replace him with...PJ Stock? (yikes).

Personnaly, i'd much rather watch old'Don on CBC,and at least get a few laughs, then put up with imbeciles such as McGuire and Milbury on TSN,or even worse,Watters and Kypreos on Sporstnet.

If CBC's looking at getting rid of so called "icons" then i would suggest targetting the likes of Bob Cole for a start...The man was a great broadcaster at one time, but Gordie Howe was also a great player in his days...time to move on already!!!.

One of the few things i dislike about Cherry, is proclaiming his love for the lowly leafs. But hey!!....if it means pretending to cheer for the leafs in order to keep your job,so be it!...:)

I say sour grapes to 'Grapes'! Like his suits, he's too loud. And too opinionated. And too biased towards some players (past and present) while biased against others. Just a bitter old man who should shuffle off or sign on as a ringside commentator for professional wrestling! If the CBC broom has swept away the theme song, they should make a job of it and sweep 'Grapes' away too! He couldn't analyze a two-car funeral procession and tell us which hearse is carrying the casket!
