How do you feel about Don Cherry?
Sun, July 6, 2008

There are few Canadian public figures as polarizing as Don Cherry.

You either love him or you hate him.

And what’s not to love?

Grapes is pure entertainment.

Don never did know a thing about hockey, but he does know how hockey players think and feel. As for why he's still on TV, he's a character in a cartoon suit that is the perfect foil making MacLean look good. Kelly Hrudey runs circles around Don for hockey knowledge, but he's just not as entertaining to watch.

Sometimes embarrassing, sometimes out of touch, you have to admit when it comes to knowledge of the GAME, he's always right. Plus, even though he often fudges the names and regiments of soldiers killed, there is no better supporter on TV for our military. Maybe the only one...

He represents everything that is wrong with hockey and our society. His rants about Europeans and their lack of will, skill etc. is tantamount to racisim as it is soley based on ethnicity. He is of the old school bully tactics, he puffs out his chest and gets louder when things don't go his way ala Brian Burke, Bobby Clarke, Pat Quinn, Mike Milbury etc..Old School bullies. Not to mention he dresses like a clown, come on now, who amongst you can deny that.

I heard a lot of things said about Don over the years both pro and con.

I don't agree with Don's points of view all the time but what impresses me most is how loyal people are to Don.

Note if Don was or is your friend you probably have a friend for life. He would be the best kind of friend because he wouldn't walk away from you when things got tough as long as you remain true to yourself and the friendship.

We all need people like this in our lives, never dismiss a loyal person they are hard to find.

Hope to see him around for a long time yet.

I think Don Cherry should go the way of the Old hockey night in Canada theme his time has come and gone, he is very patriotic and does love the game of hockey, but his stupid clothing and pre teen antics belong in the WWE, his spiel with Ron Maclean the good cop bad cop has long worn out I think CBC should hire him to do the occational interveiw kinda like the Barbara Walters of the NHL.

Canadians know that Don Cherry will never lie to them. You couldn't say much more better things about a person. He is "Old School", is straight to the point. Today's announcers and commentators go out of their way to be politically correct and use new made up words such as 'GRATUITOUS' to mean lucky, and "Puck Drop" to mean face-off etc.

He is also very informative and very entertaining. That’s why the CBC ratings spike up when his segment comes on. Canadians love him!

He is what he is a hockey icon. Just don't ask him to make another Restuarant franchise or another rock em sock em video. They lost their flare.

He is the longest serving mayor of Canada.Love him or hate him he gets your attention.Agree or disagree with him he always makes his point.I always go for a break near the end of the first period just so I can watch coaches corner to get a laugh as Don destroys the English language. But this also is part of his attraction to the average working man.CBC tried once to fire him because of things they didn't like hime saying. There was such a backlash that they changed their mind after realizing how much Canadians love him.He is a big part of HNIC!He'll be greatly missed if and when he leaves the show.

you have to take him for what he is. He is an old comedien who is so out of touch with todays game that his credibility is zero. I still get a kick out of his antics but really, who could take his jabber serious?
gord anderson, 2008-07-07 00:30:24

His lack lustre taste in clothing to the point of imbecilic, annoyance, redneck ways and no tact almost hides the fact that he talks out of his rump when it comes to hockey. I'll be glad to see him go. Never liked him or his comments and never will.
