Are sensible deals being done at the NHL Entry Draft?
Sat, June 21, 2008

The Ottawa Senators hosted the NHL's entry draft but it was three other Canadian teams that stole the show Friday.

The Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens were busybodies. The Flames made a pair of significant trades, acquiring winger Mike Cammalleri from the Los Angeles Kings and also shipping winger Alex Tanguay to the Canadiens.

Once again, that last comment wasn't mine. Ahh, the games people play.

And Jake, are you suggesting that, if the draft were held in TO, the fans there wouldn't jeer anything and everything to do with the Sens and Habs? Get real. These are the "fans" who cheered when Alfredsson lay crumpled on the ice.

I believe most of the deals have been extremely beneficial to all teams involved. The only one perhaps in question will be the outcome of the Emminger deal. He is average at best, was he worth the draft pick? only time will tell. Can anyone explain why all these short guys get drafted last year and this year, yet Montreal does not give Corey Locke a shot. He has just as much if not more skill than any of them, including last years crop of Kane and Gagne. I don't understand it, it has to be a political thing.

Once again, Senator fans demonstrate what classless idiots they are. Booing the Leaf's pick in the first round - 5th overall. Here's a great young kid on the most exciting day of his life getting a bad reception from a group of cement heads that hate everything Blue & White.

The funny thing is, this kid's beginning what could be a great and productive career while the goofy Sens fans will go back to their pathetic and drab lives after the draft is over.

All the deals that were made were mostly sensible,at least at the time they're made.Time is always the telling factor as some pan out and others go bust. Most are dependant on how healthy the players are able to stay while playing for their new teams and also the adjustment factor.I didn't see any deals that were mind bogling but Bob Gainey did improve his Canadians significantly without giving up too much. The Leafs did good by trading up to get Luke Shenn.I think he'll fit in and maybe even make the opening day roster. Brian Murray did it wrong by putting Ray Emery on waivers,he should hold on awhile longer and make a trade,as Emery is a good goalie he just needs maturing and to be the number one goalie on the team who gets him.You have to remember most goalies are a little flaky, some more than others

As a Habs fan I'm pleased with Gainey's moves. Tanguay will help this season. As for Sundin, he'd be very welcome in Montreal. As hated as he is in another jersey - he'll be as welcome here with the fans as Denis Savard, Kirk Muller, and Doug Gilmour were.

They will still need a policeman in the line-up to assure that the talent is protected.

If they get all this - they will be at the top of the league next year, and have a great chance at the cup barring serious injuries.

I liked the trade Fletcher made. That kid Schenn will be a good building block for the defence. He looks like he is a big time hitter something the Leafs defence have lacked for a long time.

Jamal Mayers should be named captain asap. Let Sundin leave, get rid of Kubina, McCabe and Tucker. Build around Schenn.
