Have you given up on the Jays?
Wed, July 9, 2008

When you're in last place in your division and there's seven teams ahead of you in the hunt for the wild card, talk of a second-half surge and post-season possibilities borders on the impossible.

With the present little more than a depressing reality, the Blue Jays brass spent much of the pre-game media scrum with their vision of the future.

It was not an official running up the white flag ceremony on a season in tatters as much as it was a reality check.

How hopeful are you for a turnaround to the Blue Jays season? Have you given up on 2008? Have your say in our forum.

Jays brass concedes '08 a dud

I am a huge Baseball fan, i believe a team in last place can have a good second half and battle for a wild card.

I can not say that for this years Jays again. J.P. Recciardi is the worst G.M i have ever seen.He has no passion for the game and is not a good Baseball man. Keep Doc, Alex Rios Arron Hill. Vernon is paid way to much and can't back the numbers,A.J. Burnett is a joke. I still can't figure out why David Eckstein was brought in. all in all the Jays going in to today had 65 homers, thats 35 less than last year at this time. It has been better with cito at the helm, unfortunately you need talent to go any where. For a season where the brass where looking for more offence, then actually have less. Is the season gone yes it was gone in April.

Get rid of JP and BJ and AJ and any other initialled idiot, bring in Ceejay (that's a joke), get rid of the designated hitter, change your motto from "never ever draft a canadian"; get some broadcasters who might one day climb into the ranks of submediocre, ditch those retro Friday uniforms that make me embarrassed to be a human being and learn what baseball is supposed to be and someday I may watch your horrible horrible team.

Overpaid no talent bastards the Jays players are. Worst team I ever seen in years.

I think they should bring in Bonds for the rest of the year. He's a sideshow, but he'd make it interesting and no matter what you feel about the guy, every home run he gets is historic, few and far between as they would be. Toronto could then be an asterix on the asterix so to speak.

I haven't totally given up to the point I won't watch the Jays on TV.It's kinda like having a friend who's making a fool of themselves.You want to stick up for them and hide in embarrassment at the same time.I keep waiting for them to turn the corner and make run in the standings.But even with Cito calling the shots we could be waiting untill next year again.Seems even management has written them off for this year.

1. Fire JP Ricciardi at the end of the year;

2. Bring in a respected GM;

3. Trade AJ Burnett, Roy Halladay, Vernon Wells, Scott Rolen and Alex Rios for good prospects about ready to play in the big leagues (this would free up a lot of salary as well);

4. Sign 4 or 5 low priced free agents;

5. Bring up Travis Snider and a few other prospects in a year or two.

The Blue Jays need to get young and good. Rebuild!

gordholio, 2008-07-07 15:19:57

The Jays lack a true cleanup hitter. Wells and Rios are good but they arent 40 home runs, 130 rbis type of power hitter the Jays lack.

Trade Burnett, what a poor excuse of a professional athlete he is. He should be a 20 game winner with his stuff, not a 500 pitcher.

He is just another over paid athlete that just wants to collect his fat pay check with doing as little as possible to earn any penny of it.

Jays are done and will be every year that JP is still the GM here. His record speaks for its self, nothing more than a 500 record. He should have been let go a year or 2 ago.

Nope there screwed this year. Send them all back to the Minor leques or even better the Pee Wee leque. better off asking Charlie Shean to re enacted his role as "Wild thing" in Major Leque one and two or maybe get the other actors as well to play and renact their roles. Then they would have a fighting chance

None whatsoever. Unable to hit with men on base + Rios and Wells distracted by mentally counting their millions when they should be focused on baseball + a JFJ-like GM = 2nd division/next year country.
