Will 'Hockey Night in Canada' be able to successfully replace the old theme? Wed, September 3, 2008
TORONTO - The CBC received nearly 15,000 submissions in its quest to find a new theme song for "Hockey Night in Canada."
A total of 14,685 entries were submitted to the broadcaster's Anthem Challenge contest prior to the Aug. 31 deadline, CBC said Wednesday.
The network is holding the Canada-wide search after the rights to the iconic jingle that opened its weekly hockey broadcast for some 40 years were snapped up by CTV in June.
Will 'Hockey Night in Canada' be able to successfully replace the old theme?
everyone in the headquarters of CBC should be fired and replaced with real canadians not american want a bees as for wednesday night hockey back when CBC was the only network that had sports
NHL hockey was Two nights a week wednesdays and saturdays but since the 1970's when the anti canadians took over CBC everything has changed no local news big cities only
and only in Ontario Quebec

well said Phil, its just a theme song, CBC has to get in the 21st century, maybe we should still have Howie Meeker on their.....times have changed themes have changed, even hairstyles have changed so why not a new opening for Hokey Night in Canada!!! Good on ya CBC you call the shots 2 years from now we'll be humming the new theme!!!!

To all those that say they will not watch HNIC anymore due to this. I really doubt that will happen. If the team you support and the game you want to see is on HNIC and not TSN then you will almost for sure tune into CBC. Exactly what other choices do you have?
As for me I have not subscribed to TSN for almost 7 years for my own reasons, and don't miss it at all. Will I subscribe because they now have the HNIC theme song, not a chance.
A theme song doesn't make the game what it is. Things change and we move on, just look how the game itself has changed over the years. Did you stop watching because it changed? I don't think so.
We will all move on and still watch hockey even with the changes.

Lucy it's the womans property for crying out loud! If you owned it and still had the rights to it you's be rewarded accordingly, grow up and get over it!

It is a darn shame that the CBC let this National Hockey Anthem go, but more so it was a shameful act that CTV litterly stole this song from the CBC. With more time the CBC would have made a deal. Now our Saturday Night Hockey will never be the same. I just have to say Shame on Both the CBC and CTV.

Did we not *all* feel this way when Labatt bought the rights to HNIC from Molson? Everyone here grew up with Molson HNIC - hated the move and adapted to the new sets, logos and look...
It will be different, odd, and dopwnright weird to see it on Wed. night TSN games - but in comes the Olympic Games, we will have adapted and history shows we will move on...

Shame on composer and especially her lawyer. They are going to milk the song written ages ago for all it's worth without any regard for hockey fans.
