TORONTO - The CBC received nearly 15,000 submissions in its quest to find a new theme song for "Hockey Night in Canada."
A total of 14,685 entries were submitted to the broadcaster's Anthem Challenge contest prior to the Aug. 31 deadline, CBC said Wednesday.
The network is holding the Canada-wide search after the rights to the iconic jingle that opened its weekly hockey broadcast for some 40 years were snapped up by CTV in June.
Will 'Hockey Night in Canada' be able to successfully replace the old theme?

Pay the royalties - they are peanuts compared to the pilot shows you put out every year.
BTW - Vaughn in Atlanta - you are an idiot. Let's start messing with your precious baseball and see how much you like it. Robots on Fox? - give me an F'n break...

You americans commercialize everything to death, ruins good sports...Look at baseball, takes forever for a game to get over and its the most boring thing to watch next to paint drying...

Pulling down paradise and making a parking lot is change not progress. I see my own experiences of having identified with the HNIC song as a kid and now watching my own son rush to get the TV set on in time to hear the music.
And I also shake my head with the others here who have a really hard time understanding the Bizarro CBC management team that ditches the anthem but keeps Bob Cole.

((It was also nice to hear Saterday Night from Nickleback as well before the NHL theme song was played))

And really Vaughn, real sports fans away from hockey, most hockey players are tougher than any other athlete, and BTW we're currently in the 21st century.
