Who will win the Conn Smythe Trophy?
Tue, May 13, 2008

Awarded annually to the player judged most valuable to his team during the NHL's Stanley Cup playoffs, the Conn Smythe Trophy has only ever been awarded to 36 different players since it was introduced in the 1964-65 NHL season.

Multiple winners include names like Bobby Orr, Bernie Parent, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Patrick Roy.

Players from teams that lost the Stanley Cup, have won the Conn Smythe Trophy five times. Jean-Sebastien Giguere had that dubious honour in 2003.

With many outstanding players giving it their all in the semifinal stages, there are more than a few candidates.

Who do you think will win the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2008?

I'll refrain from hiding behind my anonymity to slag people I don't know, and just answer the question.

I think most people have it right that Osgood should win this time around. Unless Zetterberg or Franzen scores a hat-trick or two, I'd give the edge to Osgood.

What do you mean? The Oilers got creamed 4 straight the first time they made the finals by the experience of the Islanders. I'd say the comparison is still very much in place so far.

The Oilers of the 80's and Pens comparison is Dead on the Pens lack experience, my question to you is what happens next year when the Oilers and the Pens play in the show, are we going to campare the Oilers to the Pens or the Oilers to the oilers....food for thought

pete

Well at least Sid is trying, whats Malkin doing besides giving the puck away every time he touches it ?

These 2 games against Detroit he has been invisible again, he took the 2 games off in Philly to. He doesnt like playing on the road, typical russian, going gets rough, he quits. Sad when a smaller player like Datsyuk can knock Malkin off the puck, that shows how much he is trying, Datsyuk is several inches and 20 - 30 pounds lighter but knocked your hero off the puck in the corner no problem.

After 2 straight shutouts, but only a total of 41 shots, Osgood should be the hands-down winner of the Conn Smythe. He has shut down the media poster boy Syd the Kid and his buddy Evgeni.

Osgood took over for old creaky bones Dominik "Fish out of water" Hasek, put the team on his back and instilled confidence back into the team.

And it's not a fluke, he has the best GAA at 1.38, the best save percentage at .939, tied for the most wins and shut-outs all after sitting for the first 4 games.

Hey media moguls...either listen to the fans and give the trophies to deserving players, or give up your right to do anything and have a fan vote.

Guy from Ottawa, or is it really Gatineau Guy. Part of your fraternity, boys was a euphemism for your age and by association lack of hockey knowledge and hence your asinine predictions/statements. Believe me when I say I am not soliciting acceptance into your club, I have way too much fun ridiculing it and you and your buddies. I see below, Don and Colin did not disappoint. Don has nothing to say and Colin has another one of those magic moments, Crosby is Pittys best player? so what he's the best at what has been less than mediocre. Conn Smythe, are you on crack buddy? Lidstrom, Smythe, a little bit closer but noooo. Chris Osgoode will win the Conn Smythe. Yet another prediction for ya, DisgruntledFan.

hey welfare pete, you're not part of the fraternity. us "boys" would rather not have a loser like you around, posting ridiculous and immature comments.nobody respects you idiot, so do us all a favor and get lost.
Guy from Ottawa, 2008-05-26 19:13:39

Alot of the comments are "goonish" as such as your hockey "heros"

GROW THE EF UP !!!

It seems to me that Pete is full of a lot of teen angst and suppressed anger. I'd reply to him personally but that would involve me lowering my IQ a few too many points. Besides, I can only expect the rebuttal to be erroneous, poorly written and full of insults that are more a reflection of himself than the person his attack is directed towards.

On to hockey, Pens win tonight, they win the series... lose and they may squeeze out 5 games. Regardless of the insults flung at Crosby (more a reflection of inner jealousy), he's been Pitty's best player. Him or Lidstrom for the Smythe... depending on whichever team wins.
Colin, 2008-05-26 17:36:10

From what i've seen so far,my vote would have to go to Zetterberg. The man's a work-horse every time he's on the ice. He's the scoring leader (tied with "the mule" I believe),plays on the power-play,penalty killings,backs-check...and is a class-act to top it all.The only problem is, as far as the media goes...he plays for the "wrong team".

I think Crosby's a very good player as well, and a canadian to boot but, I also think the media's over-advertising him....give credit where true credit's due.
