Who will win the Conn Smythe Trophy?
Tue, May 13, 2008

Awarded annually to the player judged most valuable to his team during the NHL's Stanley Cup playoffs, the Conn Smythe Trophy has only ever been awarded to 36 different players since it was introduced in the 1964-65 NHL season.

Multiple winners include names like Bobby Orr, Bernie Parent, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Patrick Roy.

Players from teams that lost the Stanley Cup, have won the Conn Smythe Trophy five times. Jean-Sebastien Giguere had that dubious honour in 2003.

With many outstanding players giving it their all in the semifinal stages, there are more than a few candidates.

Who do you think will win the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2008?

Ok Norbit your starting in goal Saturday night lets see you do as good. You probably couldn't stop a beach ball never mind a slapshot from Gonchar.

If you were in goal when Malkin took that shot at Biron we would have seen a load of "crap" on the ice in the replay...

Osgood stoned the Pens in the first game, heck the second game too. True he has a good team but he is playing the best I have ever seen him.

Your the only guy I know who can get BOTH feet in his mouth at the same time.

No question Osgood is the man. Yes the Wings are aa puck posession team but he's always there when they need him.

Yeah Osgood sure is a phenom, playing behind a team that has posession of the puck most of the game, allows maybe 20 shots and the majority of those shots are harmless, although it was awfully nice of him to help Pittsburgh score the game-winner lol. If he were on any other team he would be a backup. If Detroit wins(and no, it isnt over yet, not by a long shot) then Zetterberg or Lidstrom should get it. Detroit could survive losing Osgood, but losing Zetterberg or Lidstrom would be a disaster. I can't believe so many people are saying Osgood for Conn Smythe. Sheesh, the Wings could put Red Light Racicot in net and still win games.

pete 12 year old kid

Crosby showed last night he is the leader and best player on the Pens. The so called label is gone, only in your kids eyes was there a label because thats what your daddy says so you just repeat what he says lol.

Maybe your mighty oilers can sign malkin when his contract expires since he cant play in the playoffs he will fit right in in Edmonton lol.

as it stands right now...OSGOOD, hands down.

why don't you all grow up, and stop acting like children, no one cares what you think only the ones that give the award out care.
lori, 2008-05-29 17:34:46

Crosby or Fleury. Crosby cause his the points leader in the playoffs and Fleury holds the most wins in the playoffs. :D

At this point, Osgood should win it.

The jealously in this thread is overwhelming. I'm sorry the LOL Sens suck. I'm sorry the Hab-nots choked.

This Pens team is great. The talent is amazing. Saying Crosby won't ever be great, is like saying Mark Messier was never great.

He is NOT a goal scorer, he is a set up guy, and there is nothing wrong with that,

If the Pens don't win the Cup this year, they still have the next 3-4 years.

I noticed no one brought up the dirty play of the Wings. The attempted knee on knee on Crosby by Draper. The goaltender interference by Holmstrom.

I still think the Pens have a great chance to win. This series is going 7 games.

The finals this year are garbage. One team tanked up all their draft picks in previous seasons and Detroit is pulling what Carolina did two years ago, using dirty tricks to make the referees call penalties (when, in fact, Carolina learned this first from Detroit from 2002).

As for who should win conn smythe, only Zetterberg and Lidstrom are candidates on Detroit's end, and Crosby on Pittsburgh's end.

That being said, people saying Osgood fail to recognize that Detroit would be where they are if they had about 26 other goaltenders in the league, as per playing behind the league's second best defense corps makes it pretty easy (the rule no longer applies, in new rules you need good d to win the cup, not a great g).

If Detroit does win the cup, give it to the Swede that also won a gold medal (also to the fact that the only foreign captain to win it was Modano back in 1999). Lidstrom is a brilliant player, and his and Rafalski's absence in the line-up this year really proved how good Detroit were without them (something like 1-8-3).

Osgood's as good as Mike Vernon... oh wait, they're not great, just good. I find it funny how this trophy is given out anyway. They give it to Cam Ward when Carolina wouldn't have done anything without Brindamour and JS Giguere who didn't even win that season, and yet they never gave it to Brodeur the three times he backstopped the Devils to the Cup, especially in 2003 when he set the shut-out record in a single playoff.

Bank on the league giving it to an undeserving player... LIKE Osgood... again. That trophy is already full of blemishes.

The 3rd peorid officating sucked even worse than usual.. I thought I was watching a wrestling match there for a second.

"spearing, slashing Draper all night, the ref watching and no calls. Gonchar crosschecking Holmstrom in the back and neck again no calls, Gill tackling players to the ice, while he was on the ice he grabbed a Detroit players leg and held on for dear life, again no calls."

WTF since when players are allowed to do a leg lock like mannuver in hockey... Next game both teams are going tobring the Tables, Ladders and chairs, Sinapore Canes, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Edge, Mick foley Have Vince Mchammond in the background seeing if he can use this for a wrestling angle. It'd looked like a really bad wrestling event.

Kinda remins me of the Oilers in the 80's where Esa Tikkeken body slamed a Washigton Captial into his own bench and staked away. that was ona Rockem Sockem
