Do Habs games need more French music?
Fri, May 30, 2008

A prominent Quebec publisher is calling on governments to force the Montreal Canadiens to spin more French-language tunes for the Bell Centre crowd.

Michel Brule said he was shocked the team's DJ played only one French song during Game 7 of the Habs' first-round playoff series against the Boston Bruins.

"We are not in Raleigh, (North) Carolina, we are not in Philadelphia, we are in Montreal and we are in Quebec," said Brule, publisher of Les Editions des Intouchables.

"Anglophones think the only language on the planet is English. Anglophones are the most ethnocentric people in the history of humanity."

Mr Brule, will it help them win a cup? Doesn't surprise me, Habs lose, blame the english. Brule's an idiot.

Mr Brule can pack his bags and move back to France if he does not like it here in Canada. He will have no problem finding venues playing French music, however, he might have a more difficult time finding a hockey game however. nearby countries that have decent hockey, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Chezch Republic all play english music just as they do here in North America. Difference is, there are no seperatists complaining about it, at least if they are they're not doing it a hockey games. Anglaphones may be labled as Ethnocentric but Brule and almost 50% of quebecers are the true racists/seperatists.

Out of the 31 players on the team 7 are from Quebec. So the 24 who aren't are not going to be inspired by listening to French music. As far as charging the fans up. Play hockey better. You got whomped by a better team and no amount of music is going to change that.

This guy (Michel Brule) is any idiot and this is coming from someone that lives in Gatineau, Quebec a french speaking community. Brule, go buy yourself some french CD's and listen to it at home.

Why should I pay for books that I can't read? I am no longer fluent in the two languages I studied because I didn't use them for an extended time. I'm too busy living life in my native language to stop and study another language so I can be politically correct.

people like this moron creates all the so called languange problems. it looks to me the french are the ones who are obsessed with their languange and trying to make everything an issue. doesn't this guy anything more important to worry about? then again, his bar failed pretty quickly after all...

Ethnocentric eh? Sounds like more the French Canadians are in this case. How much does it take for people in Quebec to realize you are surrounded by 300 million anglos on both sides of the border. English is going to dominate!
mike, 2008-05-08 06:58:07

Hate to break it to you, but everyone is ethnocentric.
evilJaze, 2008-05-08 05:35:28

Mr. Brule is merely displaying his extreme ignorance. The English are the LEAST ethnocentric people who have ever inhabited this planet. Our language is composed of words from every other language that exists. The English people themselves come from numerous tribal backgrounds. Multi-culturalism has been part of the english character from the very beginning of the nation. Quebec owes its language and cultural rights to the tolerance of the English, and their inclusive character. If ever there was a case of three fingers pointing back at the accuser! This from the only ethnic group on the planet with the audacity to legally promote one language group over all others. Shame on Brule, and the rest of the FLQ. Let Quebec's french language flourish on merit, not prejudicial protectionism.
