Do Habs games need more French music?
Fri, May 30, 2008

A prominent Quebec publisher is calling on governments to force the Montreal Canadiens to spin more French-language tunes for the Bell Centre crowd.

Michel Brule said he was shocked the team's DJ played only one French song during Game 7 of the Habs' first-round playoff series against the Boston Bruins.

"We are not in Raleigh, (North) Carolina, we are not in Philadelphia, we are in Montreal and we are in Quebec," said Brule, publisher of Les Editions des Intouchables.

"Anglophones think the only language on the planet is English. Anglophones are the most ethnocentric people in the history of humanity."

Michel Brule says "Anglophones think the only language on the planet is English. Anglophones are the most ethnocentric people in the history of humanity."

He's got that wrong. Anglophones ARE the most pragmatic perhaps, realizing that English is the true international language, evidenced by air travel and the fact the hardest classes to get into throughout Europe and most of Asia are English Language classes.

Then there's the simple fact that we share a common border in Canada with a nation where English is the predominant language.

Elements in Quebec are reportedly angry with Hollywood for using actors from France to dub French into movies shown in Quebec, where they don't seem to understand the dialect used. Wonder what the squawk would be if Hollywood simply said to Hell with Quebec and stopped distribution their films there?

They are on a one-way path to becoming a Banana Republic with snow.

Has anyone ever been to a bar in Montreal? 90% of the music you hear ANYWHERE is english. Michel Brule is either not in touch with reality (a very plausible possibility) or using the Habs to try to push the francophone agenda back into the public eye. Either way, there are much more important things to whine about than which songs get played at hockey games.

What's he talking about? The national anthem is a Quebec song and they play that at every game...

Lets not hang Michel Brule out to dry. Lets face it, half the population of Queerbec feel the same as this guy. The rest of Canada has to wake up and state "enough is enough" You don't like it here and by here I don't mean the hockey rink, I mean the best country in the world, then go back to France. Now they really love you Quebecois over there. Yeah not so much.

Is this Michel Brule character aware of how cringe-inducing the French music scene is? More French songs during Habs' games = more laughter and more annoyed fans at the Bell Centre. Get serious.... I speak French and even I can't listen to French music with a straight face.

I don't think welcome to the jungle will sound as good in French, plus they serve French fries what else do they want????

Wasn't there a french politician in Quebec who wanted the Habs to only draft French Canadian players not so long ago as well???

Soon you will only be able to get crepes, bagettes and croissants(excuse my french)

at the concession stands.

Pass the burre , merci!!

brule can stay home and watch the game or bring a walkman. who cares what music they play at the game, it IS THE GAME in itself that is important. if people come to the game to listen to the music they should stay home, put on a cd of their favorite artist turn down the volume of the game and enjoy. why start a war bacause of one person. you dont like the music stay home simple.
