Is Ron Wilson right about Sundin?
Thu, September 4, 2008

On one hand, Ron Wilson said he respects Sundin for not rushing back if he is unsure whether or not he wants to play -- adding that he would welcome back the longtime Leafs captain with open arms.

On the other hand, Wilson suggested that one of the problems with the sad-sack Leafs last year was a distinct lack of leadership.

And you don't have to be Howie Meeker to connect the dots there, that leadership is supposed to be one of the major responsibilities of the team captain.

Is Wilson right about the Leafs recent poor form?

Full story: Wilson suggests Mats was part of the problem

Ron, good luck once a Leaf allways a leaf u can't change that. Must make all the right moves at the right time. Listen only too your heart not the media or the fans. You'll only be a goat or the hero.

Do us a favor put a rookie line together and give them a nick name and RUN with it.

Keep Sudin he's heart is a Leaf , MATT's has proved that.

P.S GO FOR THE GOLD...

Let's give the guy a chance before we start lobbing grenades. I do feel sorry for the guy, in an environment where every mistake gets blown into a Greek tragedy it's hard for anybody to succeed. But someone's got to do the job and although Maurice did a good job with what he had, someone's head had to roll so the Teacher's Fund could say they did something. Wilson should have a few years to sink or swim.

Personally I think that everyone attending a Leaf's game should be given a rabies shot or something. With all that foaming at the mouth about the Leafs having a chance each year, there's got to be something chemically wrong with the fan base. In a few years they might innoculate them all and maybe they'll settle down a bit and develop more realistic expectations.

Why is it that whenever there are comments posted here about the Leafs all the Leaf bashing idiots come out of the closet and write idiotic comments about them.I am sure that most of you have not had the chance to watch whatever team you cheer for hoist the Stanely Cup.

Unless you cheer for a American based team.

The Leafs cannot say anything publicly regarding the assumption of GM Brian Burke as it may open up a can of worms with tampering with the NHL. In Ron Wilson's press conference/press reports the subtle reference was already made as reporters began to pry is he and burke talked about this signing. We are aware that Burke is their man and if they have to wait it out that may take up to a year, so what are they to do- not hire a quality coach? The signing of Wilson is a good move, but with that they need to address many player issues and improve the play of the younger players. Improve on defence, penalty killing/powerplay and shootout wins. Those are the main things to get this team back on track. The Canadiens, did the same thing and look how much they improved from the year before with a young team. Look at the Penguins, they did the same albeit they have young prime talent. Everyone who is not a Leaf fan will rip anything they do. If God was hired as coach, then they would rip on the Lord as well. With every team the next 6 weeks are crucial in team roster moves. Everyone take a breather and let the chips fall where they may with the draft, trades, free agency and contract buyouts. Only one team won the Stanley Cup. All 29 other teams have to improve- not just the Leafs.

Dave, Wilson was born in Windsor, Canada. Yes, I can read that. He moved to the states when he was 12. He is listed as an American National. He got all his hockey training in the US. That is considered as American. If you want to split hairs, be my guest. Welcome to the non-Leaf fans club anyways.

WILSON - YEAH RIGHT!NOW GO GET SAM POLLOCK IF YOU REALY WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE OTHER THAN THAT "THERE'S ONE BORN EVERY MINUTE"..SAME OLD SAME OLD AND THAT'S THE NAME OF DAT TUNE !!!
kelly gallacher, 2008-06-10 23:56:17

Uh... Vince.... your own post states that Wilson was born in Canada. Yes, he has American citizenship but people born in Canada are generally Canadian.

Also, I'm not sure you you brilliantly deduced that the Leafs are "my team" when I said nothing to indicate that. Truth be know, the Leafs are my least favorite team in the league.

Why can't the Leafs just be HONEST with their fans? They fired Paul Maurice because they wanted the new GM to pick his own coach. Well, has a new GM been hired? NO!

Cliff Fletcher will be the GM until Brian Burke becomes a realistic option and the team can't even be honest enough with their fans to admit it.

All this BS from the Leafs is further evidence that they care not about the fans. Why lie to the people supporting your team unless you are taking them for granted? This dishonesty is yet another reason to despise this perpetual loser of a team.
steve, 2008-06-10 21:09:47

Why do the need a new coach? They don't have any hockey players anyway.
Ken, 2008-06-10 20:45:43

Ron Wilson was born in Ontario btw, but what does it matter if he is American? He could be exactly what is needed.

The Montreal Canadiens were saved by an American.

BTW, Maurice won a Stanley Cup, which is more than Ron Wilson can put on his resume.
