Is Ron Wilson right about Sundin?
Thu, September 4, 2008

On one hand, Ron Wilson said he respects Sundin for not rushing back if he is unsure whether or not he wants to play -- adding that he would welcome back the longtime Leafs captain with open arms.

On the other hand, Wilson suggested that one of the problems with the sad-sack Leafs last year was a distinct lack of leadership.

And you don't have to be Howie Meeker to connect the dots there, that leadership is supposed to be one of the major responsibilities of the team captain.

Is Wilson right about the Leafs recent poor form?

Full story: Wilson suggests Mats was part of the problem

Wayne, your not serious. You heard that the country forerly known as the Soviet Union, commonly referred to as Russia is no longer one large entity. Russia proper has been reduced to a country which used to be a province within the republic. clown.

pete puck for brains

I see you are off your meds again kid, or you just run out and waiting for new ones to arrive at the mental hospital lol.

What is a former Russian ? lol.
Wayne, 2008-05-23 11:39:55

Semantics? Sorry, bozo, but "Soviet Union and East Block" reflects just what it says. If I had meant "European" as an all-encompassing description, I would have said exactly that.

And golly, did I forget an "s?" Wow, draw and quarter me. Now compare that to your ignorance of the language, which is demonstrated each time you open that garbage dump you call a mouth.
DisgruntledFan, 2008-05-23 11:24:47

Disgruntled Fan, semantics! Half the players I named below are Russian or former Russian. I don't however understand your point. Arguabley the league has never been more watered down than it is now. At what other point in the history of the NHL has such a plethora of kids playing right out of Junior. Even with all of your influx of players from Soviet Union and other East Block countries. So whats your point. Crosby is doing well in a watered down league. As for your gramar, as you are the self proclaimed expert, please explain, and I quote, "Ahh, who the hell care what you think". I think you meant to say cares. Clown!

Pete, 2008-05-23 09:04:32

You can't even quote me correctly. Where, exactly, did I say "Europeans?" I said "Soviet Union and other East Block countries." Huge difference.

The Soviet Union fell apart in 1991-1992 and it wasn't until then that players from that country (which included Latvia, The Ukraine, Byelorussia, Georgia, and a host of others) as well as Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic and Slovakia) began flocking to the NHL, led by Bure. By then, Gretzky was 31 going on 32 and had already scored 749 of his goals for Edmonton and L.A. for an average of 56.6 goals per season.

In his remaining 8 seasons with L.A., St. Louis, and NYR he scored 145 goals for an average of 18 per season.

Jagr and Federov played their first NHL seasons in 1990-91 by which time Gretzky had already played 11 seasons. Konstantinov played his first in 1991-92, Hasek in 1992-93, and Kozlov in 1995-96.

But look who I'm trying to reach! A complete cypher who can't even get his own facts straight, let alone read what other people actually say, in his haste to call them "idiots" and "morons".

Ahh, who the hell care what you think anyway outside of your immediate family, who are probably as fed up with you as most who post here.

YOU'RE what you accuse everyone else of being: a suck-up, whining, confused little twerp who wouldn't know a puck from a frozen turd.
DisgruntledFan, 2008-05-22 15:05:34

Disgruntled Fan, if the shoe fits..I'm so sorry if I have insulted you. However every time you write something you prove to me you are more of an idiot than I gave you credit for. e.g. Your asinine statement "Did not include the best of the europeans"? Gretzky played in the 80s not 60s and 70s. Who did Gretzky play with, oh I forgot he played with all those Canadians, Kurri, Tikkanen, Nilsson etc. etc. Not to mention Yagr, Konstantinov, Kozlov, Boldirev, Salming, Butsayev, Cernik, Fedorov, Bure, Mironov, Hasek, Selanne, Statsny brothers etc. etc. By the way, I have never stated that Crosby is not among the leauges best, In my opinion there are better hockey players than him. Prove me otherwise.
Pete, 2008-05-22 14:13:21

disgruntled fan, I bet your not even old enough to have seen Gretzky play. fist thing first, no one especially me, has stated that Crosby is not a great player, however to compare him to Gretzky is ludicrous. Even more ludicrous is your statement that the league didn't have the best of the Europeans durning the Gretzky era. Now are you going to cry and whine and cloud the issue as I have called you out and highlighted your asinine comment. Go back and look at the stats of the day. Who played with Gretzky, those canadaians Kurri, Nilsson, Tikkanen,Summanen, Jalo etc. etc. ? Sorry, can't help myself but the more you write the bigger an idiot I believe you to be.
Pete, 2008-05-22 13:04:15

Just because Crosby only has 4 goals doesnt mean he isnt producing. He never was a goal scorer, he is a play maker, you know what that means, he sets up his wingers and they do the scoring.

Gretz was the biggest baby to ever play in the NHL. Couldnt take a check if his life depended on it.
Wayne, 2008-05-22 11:52:10

Are you totally incapable of countering a point without the insults? Why do I get the impression that your responses would be laced with 4-letter words if the moderator allowed it?

I bet, in person, you can't string three words together without throwing in some gratuitous insult or swear word.

Take a good, long, hard look at yourself Pete. You are a sad case who THINKS he knows everything there is to know about hockey, and if someone throws a round hole at you you'll do your level best to pound in a square peg.

And please don't throw that tired "yadda yadda" stuff back at me. Try and find something original in that limited vocabulary rattling around in your thick skull.

Gretzky was a great player in his day - a time, for the most part, that did not include the best of the Soviet Union and other East Block countries.

Crosby is a great player today, when the best in the world are gathered into the NHL.

Different times.
DisgruntledFan, 2008-05-21 18:57:22

Wayne, your an idiot. Full Stop. Are you comparing Crosby to Gretzky. Freaking Crybaby Crosby couldn't carry Gretzky's jock. As for him not having a night off, where the hell was he the first two series? Clown. And you profess to know something about hockey. Jump on the band wagon.
