Is Ron Wilson right about Sundin?
Thu, September 4, 2008

On one hand, Ron Wilson said he respects Sundin for not rushing back if he is unsure whether or not he wants to play -- adding that he would welcome back the longtime Leafs captain with open arms.

On the other hand, Wilson suggested that one of the problems with the sad-sack Leafs last year was a distinct lack of leadership.

And you don't have to be Howie Meeker to connect the dots there, that leadership is supposed to be one of the major responsibilities of the team captain.

Is Wilson right about the Leafs recent poor form?

wilson is a good coach, at least as good as anybody out there. he has a cood record and the failure of the sharks is not just his fault. by the way, what does it matter if he's an american? (he has a canadian passport...)

This is not a bad move, if Brian Burke is to come in 1 day as GM.

The fact that the 1 day may be a season away could prove costly.

The Leafs may be a better team short term because of the coaching change, but whether this means they make the playoffs next year remains to be seen.

It's likely that the changing of the old guard of players with their no trade clauses will take forever and this will be a major issue between new and old players when things don't go well in the dressing room.

It will be interesting to see how Wilson handles the dressing room and how much crap actually gets out to the public.

At any rate it's a start for the Leaf Nation, who will have to cling on to this as being their best hope for now and quite a few years down the line.

let's give the guy a chance first before we start making comments. Looks like a good fit from here though.

Hey Vince, DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Wilson is from Windsor, Ontario. I'm pretty sure that is in Canada, not the US.

Wilson will not make a difference...players of the Leafs are 100% no good!

Yes, yes. Ron Wilson (an American) is the right choice for coaching the team from the Centre of the Universe (not Canada’s team) of course. He's never won anything as a coach, so therefore that makes him a perfect fit to coach the Maple Leafs. They're used to not winning anything since 1967. “The Tradition Continues”.

Ron Wilson hasn't proven to be a successful playoff coach yet, however he has done an admirable job developing the young talent in San Jose. By the time the Leafs are ready to contend Wilson's contract will be up. Let's see how it goes.

Ron Wilson is a nightmare waiting to happen for Toronto. The first time things are going horribly wrong and the T.O. media are on his butt he will EXPLODE publicly like nothing we've ever seen before. This guy has a temper which is most definitely not compatible with the pressure of coaching in Toronto.

I am not a Leafs supporter. so when it happens I will find it all quite funny.
David, 2008-06-10 11:06:31

Let's face reality, it isn't going to matter who they have coaching THAT team now is it ?
