Will the Penguins contend again?
Thu, June 12, 2008

At the very moment the Detroit Red Wings were holding their Stanley Cup parade Friday, the Pittsburgh Penguins were saying goodbye and heading off into a shorter-than-usal off-season.

The next time they meet, some won't be wearing Penguins uniforms, a certainty given the NHL salary cap that prevents good teams from staying together for a long time.
Full story: Penguins know roster will change before next season

Can the Penguins contend again next season?

Yes they can. someone needs to rock around Crosby and they need to play the body and start checking more. Pittsberg is walking around the so called "Mighty" Flyers. If Ron Hextell was there he would of blown a gasket and tackled a player like he did to Cheios back in 89 ((don't quote me on the year when it happened ) but he did tackle Chelious.

More important things to focus on in our Country at this time people! Lost jobs, sky rocketing cost of living, high taxes... oh but lets just live in ignorant bliss and talk hockey. lol. Really people!

Maybe ask the new GM when he is hired.

wanna be pete

You are hilarious for someone that knows very little about sports but especially hockey.
Pete, 2008-05-06 11:07:52

the other pete is an oilers fan so take his comments for what they are worth, nothing.

someone said he is just a 12 year old kid, that explains so much lol.

Norbitt, there is a second Pete on the site and he is even more caustic than I. He knows nothing about hockey however, so you can throw his comments out with the bath water.

Bettmanstein above all else wants Baby Sid and his slew-footing friends to make it to the Finals. That will make NBC happy and finally get people from Mississippi and Arkansas watching hockey - not like those bullies from Philly. Then Gary can make some real $$$$$$$$.

I expect Pittsburgh to get 7-8 Popwer-plays/game and better diving then we've seen in the past 3 Olympics.

Detroit (even with it's AHL goaltending) will school everyone in the end, assuming of course that they can get by the New Jersey Devils of the 90's.......I mean the Dallas Stars.

How long before Football starts again?

Pete, I never mentioned Stortini as a great player or anything. I know what Stortini is: a good agitator that fights and occasionally provides offense. In other words a great role player, as are Glencross and Brodziak, and my point was that for fourth line players they provide excellent fourth-line offense. As for Pisani, well, he has a great wrister with a quick release and I believe he could score 20 or even 30 if paired with a decent playmaker.

As for Pittsburgh and Philly I say this: should be a great series, but Pittsburgh will win in 6, possibly 7.

Pens will advance over Philly to the Stanley Cup final but in a typical case of the young talented team making it to the final for the first time, Detroit will school the Pens for the cup.

Pens come back to the final next year and win it all.
