Did the Jays make the right move by releasing Frank Thomas?
Mon, April 21, 2008

The Blue Jays and the Big Hurt parted company on Sunday. The Jays didn't want Frank Thomas to stick around and become The Big Pain.

The not-so-stunning development occurred the morning after the Jays told Thomas that he would not be in the lineup as the designated hitter but would be riding the pine on the bench.

On Saturday, Thomas was incensed.

"I didn't expect this at all," he said. "This is a shocker. It's terrible. Don't tell me I can't help this team win.

Were the Blue Jays right in releasing Thomas? Does Thomas still have some juice left to help out another baseball team? Have your say in our forum.

Wow, there’s a shock. Ricciardi releases Frank Thomas with 9 million left on his contract and now his good buddy/mentor Billy Bean picks him up for what 300K. Hey Godfrey how blind are you, or dose Ricciardi have picture of you that you don’t want released?

After the last few years of watching the BJ'S finishing out of the playoffs and the amount of bad personel decisions made by management I have to say the Blue Jays need new management including the coach dumping Frank Thomas is just using him as a scapegoat for their lack of insight. Why after the few games played this year are they panicking about run production. That will come but the pitching isn't going to be there (i.e. AJ Burnett)Wake up owernship and change the right people.

the 10 and 12 jays drop Thomas for performance and the 13 and 9 A's pick him up and make him their DH in the clean up spot. Maybe the jays didn't make such a good decision. Kinda of makes it all about the money rather than the performance.

wayne no fighting please lol

Cant you form an opinion on your own instead of saying some so called expert said this, some so called expert said that lol.

You big fat tube of goo, get outside once in while, there is a whole real world right outside your front door if you cant get through it. But instead you prefer to sit in front of your cpmputer and stuff your fat face with cheesies and pepsi all day lol.

wayne no fighting wuss

he is past his prime you frigging idiot. he is too old, Chicago let him go for just that reason you numb nut.

anyone that thinks a full time dh with less than 30 home runs and 100 rbis is still good is a crack head much like yourself you retard.

this is just 1 more sport you know nothing about clown.

I think it was the right move. Give Adam Lind a chance now.

Too bad that Toronto will be on the hook for Thomas' salary this year though.

I think Toronto should trade A.J. Burnett also. He seems to have "good stuff" at times, but has never delivered. I'm sure when Toronto got him and paid him that crazy contract, they were expecting at least 15 wins a year. He hasn't delivered; they should get some young players and prospects for him.

duh wayne, I cant explain it to you any better clown, you just dont get it.

he didnt do his job last year, he was a big disappointment.

you have too much time on your hands to make such idiotic remarks. you are as sharp as a kitchen knife.

pete, 2008-04-23 14:39:27

Frank who ? Frank what ? So you really can make 10 million dollars for doing a bunch of nothing and stinking out a already stinking Toronto.
daniel, 2008-04-23 14:28:24

So pete if a team lets you go its stupid for another team to pick them up? Are you that stupid. Players in every sport play for more than one team. The baseball experts at Fox sports (professional sports experts rather than amateur idiots like yourself) think the jays should have kept thomas.
wayne, 2008-04-23 14:06:41

Yes tha catching thing is worth the extra bucks right.

what ever pete. They pay them to play baseball and you get the big bucks for hitting, not catching the ball. Get with the game.

BJ Ryan gets $12 million per year and never bats. Whats your point?
