Did the Jays make the right move by releasing Frank Thomas? Mon, April 21, 2008
The Blue Jays and the Big Hurt parted company on Sunday. The Jays didn't want Frank Thomas to stick around and become The Big Pain.
The not-so-stunning development occurred the morning after the Jays told Thomas that he would not be in the lineup as the designated hitter but would be riding the pine on the bench.
On Saturday, Thomas was incensed.
"I didn't expect this at all," he said. "This is a shocker. It's terrible. Don't tell me I can't help this team win.
Were the Blue Jays right in releasing Thomas? Does Thomas still have some juice left to help out another baseball team? Have your say in our forum.

Thomas wasn't contributing. It was the right message; to bench him. The fact that he became incensed was a further distraction the team didn't need. Whether Thomas stills has it, is a long shot.

wow that says alot eh clown, his stats would lead the blue jays. On a good hitting team he would be in the middle of the pack at best you idiot. Where did you get that info from, TSN like the rest of us you tard.
Its only been a month since they cut him, is that how long you need for a comeback you clown ?

well its been a few weeks and if Thomas was on the Jays right now he would be first in Home Runs and RBI's and pretty respectable with a 255 batting average. I think it was a little premature to fire him

I know less about hockey than I do about baseball, but it stands to reason that it was not very nice of Toronto to fire this gentleman. What, only because he did not score any touchdowns. Something is not right.

What's wrong rith Rios? Seems lile he can't see the pitch. Maybe the Jays should have kept The Big Hurt on to be Rios & Wells personal batting coach. That way they wouldn't have to fork out all that money for a player who is playing sunny California.I also agree that they should trade Burnett for a proven catcher and maybe then they could throw out a runner or two this year.

Wow did the Jays make the right decision after the season and fire the hitting coach, this new guy is so much better lmfao.
The team batting average is .211, good job there buddy lol.

i agree on the leafs.
Same kinda on the jays. I know its only three games but 3 fantastic pitching performances against the Red sox including Burnett. No bats though. I think this is just going to be a long strange season for the jays. I still have lots of hope for them. The play so far hasn't totally dashed it.

Wayne, I don't mean to blow up the team like the Maple Leafs should do. I mean to make a few good trades where you trade your assets and get 2 or 3 good, young players and prospects that are ready to step in right away.
Clearly, AJ Burnett is not the pitcher that he was advertised as being, so I would trade him while he still has some value.
Toronto needs another big bat in the outfield and some punch behind the plate as well.

Gordholio, isn't this team the culmination of a big sell off and rebuild. This was supposed to be the year. A big sell off andf rebuild would be many years of building again. Don't we have enough to tinker and try again next year or even this year (its still really early) Jays are 3.5 games out of first. The yankees are next above them. The yankees climbed out of the bottom last year to make it. Just curious.
