Should fighting be banned from hockey? Sat, October 4, 2008
Should there be fighting in the NHL? As the hockey season approaches, this question, once again, is being asked.
Some say that hockey without fighting is like the Ice Capades. I don't know what they're talking about. I've taken my granddaughter to the Ice Capades, and the fairy ice princess throws a pretty good punch.
We all know the great Rodney Dangerfield line about how he went to a fight and a hockey game broke out.
What's your opinion on fighting in hockey? Should it stay or should it go. Have your say in our forum.
Kevin the retard, turn off romper room and try something a little more educational. I stated pro-sports generate billion dollar contracts not just hockey. Think outside the box or try reading a paper when your on break between delivering pizza or are you doing the fry cook thing again.

wayne and kevin, are you two retarded. You cannot tear your anterior crucial ligaments from blocking shots. they are streched to a point they tear, by a twisting motion or streching motion. i.e. knee on knee, canopener type infractions, etc. etc. not by the blunt force of a puck. Your are freaking pucked up. Check wykepeada or orr's official site. I'm done with you two idiots.

This is totally absurb. Leave it alone, as fighting in hockey brings an element to the game that most really like to see. Anyone deciding on getting rid of it should take a course on hockey before making pathetic decisions on it. It is getting too much like watching and a game of old maid. Sure there is speed in it now, but fighting clears the air between players, and if they get rid of it they will end up with more injuries from high sticking, spearing, and on and on I could go. Fighting is mostly done by equal opponents anyway. If they don't like fighting in the game, no one is making them watch it. So let those who do like it have their enjoyment. Most of the players that fight really enjoy doing it. Lets ban hitting in the UFC!!! This makes about as much sense. Put little wimpys out there to play instead of men if you take fighting out of the game.
I watch hockey now, but not with the same interest because of the direction it is going in. WAKE UP, FIGHTING IS PART OF THE GAME, AND EVEN THE ELITE PLAYERS AGREE WITH IT. Therefore, allow them to play the game like they want, because it ain't the spectators or management that is on the ice. I think it is better to settle the issues on the ice as it could end up being taken outside off the ice if they delete fighting. Then it could end up more court jams.

Not necessarily mean it generates more revenue.
They play the stuff that makes the most money. period. Don't even go there.
Unfortunately rarely can stay awake past 11 lately, gotta get up with my kids at 6:30.
My wife watches poker though. Sometimes I do. Prefer hockey myself. My two kids 2 and 4 watch poker with mom. they won't watch hockey with me and my wife doesn't like them to (that fight word) but they can watch basketball with me, but they don't like it either. My son loves golf though. Oh ya i have to turn off boxing or UFC when the kids are awake.

in my entire life this is the first time i have heard his knees were shot from blocking shots. Why was he the only player now that i have ever heard a career cut short for blocking shots. Was Orr the only one to ever block shots? Have they stopped doing that now?

pete puck head
The NHL makes hundreds of millions every year in merchandise sales. There are more products you can buy than just jerseys lol.
The league and the players share the revenue, something like players get just over 50 % and the league gets the rest.
I would like to see where you got the info for the TV deal for billions a year. It to is hundreds of millions but not billions clown lol.

you make a point by saying how many fights they have had to prove how tough. LOL.
Maybe they don't get in fights because they are tough. Maybe they don't get in fights because they play hockey. Maybe they have fights between goons at the end of boring games to entertain the fight lovers. Maybe they have goons for that purpose. Maybe fights are becoming less and so are goons. Maybe this trend is happeneing because the trend in the fans is changing. Notice the goon trend?

Goons dont go around cheap shoting players you moron. Its the idiots like Matt Cooke that can only hit someone when there back is to him. Or someone like Ruutu etc, most teams have wimps like that that can only hit someone when they cant see them coming up from behind them like Pete does in his girls pee wee league lol.
