What were the Flames missing?
Wed, April 23, 2008

The good news in the Game 7 loss to the Sharks was the Flames showed enough character to take the series against a favoured team to the limit, especially when they trailed after five games.

The bad news is they were thrashed when it mattered most.

What happened to the Flames? What were they missing in their lineup to put them over the edge and wins a playoff series? Have your say in our forum.

Move to pull Kipper stinks

All I can say is GO FLAMES GO! So many people just jump on the bandwagon, in the playoffs...they really need to stand behind the team! Again! GO FLAMES GO!

Yes I believe that the Flames will still win this series. They play better on the road especially in San Jose for some reason and the Sharks have struggled at home.

I think the Flames will win in 6 and wrap up the series in Calgary.

saskatchewanderer, of course the Calgary sports media is biased, almost every home team's media is. (although Eric Francis in the Calgary Sun takes it wayyy too far). That aside, if Calgary doesn't play physical from start to finish they won't win. Period. They can't match the Sharks in skill players so they HAVE to beat them down. They have a serious problem now too, in that they let San Jose come back late and, even worse, Joe Thornton scored the tying goal. If he dials up his intensity this series won't last much longer.

All that being said, I refuse to make a prediction here, except that this series is easily the most interesting one of the first round.

The Flames let last nights game get away from them. Its ok though, they will win in San Jose then win the series back in Calgary.

Go Flames Go

Funny how the Calgary papers represented game three as a gritty comeback by a team with heart taking what they wanted, while they represented game four as a team lucky to wriggle off the hook and the Flames letting it get away, rather than the Sharks taking it away. Talk about biased reporting!

Last night's loss has sealed the Flames tomb. They had the game and definitely had San Jose down but then they just sat back and did nothing. You could tell in the third period the Sharks were going to take the game. Now the Sharks have life and the Flames are way to crappy to overcome that. The only bright spot is Iginla who as one observer put it "managed to score 50 goals with an offensively bankrupt team".

Admitting my bias up front - I am a transplanted Canadian living in the Bay Area and I am indeed a Sharks fan.

I feel Orv is off-base on his characterization of Canadians. At least in my experience, I think Canadians are highly regarded. That is true here in the Bay Area.

Last night's game was another big momentum shifter. Does momentum matter game to game in the playoffs? We'll see. I'll be at game 5 and it should be a great one. I think the Sharks now understand that they need to match the Flames' intensity, so I expect their talent level to give them narrow victories from here on out. But, that could just be my bias talking!

Orv,

The world loves Canada and Canadians. A dirty little secret being Canadian ? Are you a drug addict ? Alcoholic ? Or just brain dead ? You arent born and raised here then so you should shut your mouth.

Canadians are treated with respect all over the world. Americans pretend to be Canadian when travelling abroad because they are finding out the world hates them.

Go back to the USA Orv and dont let the door hit you on your butt on the way out!

Orv

Your on drugs dude. Canada is the best country in the world. We dont have big egos, you are confusing us with the USA.

You must be a trasplanted Canadian probably from the USA. You must be a draft dodger that came to Canada to avoid fighting in a war. Dont bash us, we let you come here and live a great life and have a great place to raise a family.

Go back where you came from then Orv if you arent happy living in the greatest country in the world.
