What were the Flames missing?
Wed, April 23, 2008

The good news in the Game 7 loss to the Sharks was the Flames showed enough character to take the series against a favoured team to the limit, especially when they trailed after five games.

The bad news is they were thrashed when it mattered most.

What happened to the Flames? What were they missing in their lineup to put them over the edge and wins a playoff series? Have your say in our forum.

Move to pull Kipper stinks

I have been watching every series and the reffing has been brutal in all of them.

Pretty pathetic when the refs decide who will win a game / series and not the teams.

Your hatred for the Flames must be because your an Oilers fan.

I doubt if it was the Oilers ( or whoever your team is but wont say ) that had 6 straight calls against them you wouldnt be happy with the brutal reffing.

To Norbit

I was hardly crying. If you think six straight penalties against one team is fair you are a nutcase.

If refs wanted they could probably call a penalty every second of the game but they dont because its up to there discretion. To single out one team is bs.

Ohh by the way I havent seen you say who your team is. You must be a closet Make Me Laff fan. I wouldnt go around admitting it either so I can see how you are ashamed of your teams failures the last 3 years of not making the playoffs.

Do you think americans treat us Canadians any better when we are in your country ? If you do you are very naive.

As for your protection we dont need it. The rest of the world loves Canadians and Canada, they hate americans.

Pretty sad then when americans travel in europe and they pretend to be Canadian. Yea they are so proud of your country. They wore Canadian flags on their back packs and Canadian flag t-shirts. Thats sad and pathetic wont even admit they are american !!

I said before the second game of this series Calgary was 4 and 0 in san Jose. Someone said they were outclassed, might have been you.

You forget to say anything about the missed calls against the Flames like Nolan being taken down on a break away.

Obvisiously you didnt watch the game, just saw the high lights on a sports channel.

Tim says, "Last 4 playoff games in San Jose, Calgary is 4 wins, 0 losses." Uh, Calgary just lost there. Just pointing that out.

Wayne, I know it's real easy to point at the refs and cry 'biased'! But the point is, asides from the call on Iggy all the other penalties were deserved and the Flames can only blame themselves. As Mel pointed out, there were make-up calls against San Jose, Calgary just couldn't beat Nabokov. I don't hear the Flames themsleves crying about the officiating. why are you? Try being Nashville and having a clear goal waved off and not even reviewed.
Norbit, 2008-04-13 11:52:44

Canada is an embarassment. I attended the Canadiens Bruins game with my six year old son tonight. I was sworn at in front of him several times. The guy two rows to my right waas wearing a t-shirt with an American Flag crossed out.?? Are you kidding me? I will never visit Canada again. You are petty, stupid, arrogant people that don't deserve the protection the United States military provides your weak and fledgling country. You make me sick. I can truely say, and sadly so, I HATE Canada.

I think posters, pro & con, concede basic differences in refereeing styles now or yesteryear. Veteran referees dictate limits early, but essentially work to stay out of it. Less experienced aim to establish on the letter, and place onus on players to react back to them. But, the challenge for both styles has to be consistency, and that was not prevalent the other night in San Jose.

It started in the 2nd period by a non-call (Nolan), then momentarily later a bad call (Iginla), reduced to a whole sequence of (correct) calls on Calgary, predictably followed by an even-up attempt of 1-2 purely bogus calls on San Jose to close off the 2nd, and over spots of the 3rd period. You just knew it was going to be that way, didn't you?!

So, if you watched facial expressions on part of BOTH coaches by mid-point of the 3rd period, it 'clearly' had turned into anyone's guess! The players don't deserve it, I know I don't like it, and it's less about whose side you choose. Let's all hope for veteran refereeing in Game 3. So long as it doesn't include a man named Mick McGeough, we're fine!

Calgary is built for the playoffs. They are a big, physical team, thats why they have more success than the Sharks. The Sharks have more pure talent, but have shown they lack any heart and leadership from the vets like Thornton that hasnt ever made it past the first round. The Flames are more of a hard working team.

Last 4 playoff games in San Jose, Calgary is 4 wins, 0 losses. They are hardly outclassed.

norbit and wanderer

You two must be either Oiler or Canucks fans that are jealous your team is out.

The refs are brutal, when was the last time in a playoff game one team had 6 straight calls against them ?

You are both so naive it isnt funny.

Stop taking your teams failure and frustration out on the Flames fans.

Flames were outclassed ? First game Flames were in total control until the last 2 minutes. Once the league morons saw that the Flames could knock the Sharks out early again they told the refs to call more penalties against the Flames because thats the only was the choker Sharks will win by getting power play goals since they cant score 5 on 5 hahaha.
