Are the Leafs pulling off good moves?
Mon, November 24, 2008

The Maple Leafs have traded Carlo Colaicovo and Alex Steen to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forward Lee Stempniak.

Stempniak, 25, a native of West Seneca, N.Y., scored 27 goals two seasons ago.

This season, he has three goals and 10 assists through 14 games.

Is this a good move for the Leafs? Have your say in our forum.

mmmmmmmmmmm.....sounds like this move is being made out of personal feelings and this includes sundin.im feeling this stems back to these guys not waiving their no trade contacts.this whole mess seems like something harold ballard would do.

"Who cares about the Sens... chokers extraordinaire. This is Leaf country, don't like it? Too bad."

If the Sens are chokers, what does that make the leafs? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.... Sens > TO

This is HABS COUNTRY a real winner.

Who cares about the Sens... chokers extraordinaire. This is Leaf country, don't like it? Too bad. Maybe once the Sens have a few cups under their belts, then maybe the press will give them a small article somewhere near the back of the sports section. Until then, kiss my blue and white ass.

Getting rid of mccabe is not good... he's a very good player who became the scapegoat for the rest of this teams problems.
Greg B, 2008-09-02 09:25:23

The article doesn't say what the draft pick is. If it's first round then no, this deal is ridiculous. If it's 5th round or lower then who cares. The Leafs will finish so low that their first round picks could be gold in the next few years.

I'm all for sending a message that the team is in rebuilding mode, but overall I don't get this deal. Yes, the Leaf management realize that all these rich deals with no trade clauses were a mistake. But to dump McCabe just to be rid of him compounds the problem. I would have sucked it up, they have the cap space, and kept him as at best an experienced role model and, at the least, fodder for the boo-birds.

I like the trade. It's a case of addition by subtration. McCabe was a terrible d-man. I also like all the moves Peddie and Fletcher have made since last winter. It will be nice to watch a team that will at least go out and give it there all. Thoses are the type of players they have been collecting. Remember they MUST play Wilsons style.

In comparison to what Nottawa has done the Leafs have improved more than they have that is for sure. Not much hope for them HA HA

Anyway I am glad for the Leafs and wish them all the best. They are still and will always be Canadas Team

GO LEAFS GO

The other question that should be posed on this website is "Have the Senators rebuilt properly? They did make quite a few significant changes and are the better team in the province after all.

Why this entire obsession with only the Leafs? Where are the fairness and the balance? Does it always have to be Toronto Hogging these news and sports pages?

No wonder that Toronto is called "HOGTOWN" by the rest of Ontario.

They unabashedly earned that honour with great relish.

I think that the Leafs need the HGTV:s "While you where out".

Doug, the management team of the Laffs is really a big part of the problem. Reread the Macleans article "why the Leafs stink." The guy at the top, Richard Peddie, the one who hired JFJ is still there. To put it kindly, this man knows nothing about hockey. Unfortunately the speed of the captain is the speed of the crew. Then check the Laffs website and read Penny's bio. He is a loser. And so is Dave Morrison, Director of Amateur Scouting. This guy is barely able to put two words together. His stupid draft choices year after year have not pitched up one single top notch prospect. The interviews he gave during this year's draft were beyond belief. He could not tell the interviewer why he was picking one guy over the next. Hopefully, the recently hired Al Coates and Joe Nieuwendyk will edge Morrison and Penny out of their jobs. As for Peddie, actually he typifies a lot of the buyers of Lafffs tickets. Arrogant, unknowing and in a world of their own. If thats what Laffs fans want, they are getting what they deserve.

From a fans point of view they haven't even come close to being rebuilt enough. From the owners point of view the Leafs have rebuilt just enough to possibly make it to the first round of the playoffs and give their faithful fans just enough hope to keep buying the tickets to keep the profits rolling in.They keep saying every year since 67 that they are committed to building a Stanley Cup contender.Maybe they should call on Mike Holmes because the builders they are using all suck.
