Are the Leafs pulling off good moves?
Mon, November 24, 2008

The Maple Leafs have traded Carlo Colaicovo and Alex Steen to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forward Lee Stempniak.

Stempniak, 25, a native of West Seneca, N.Y., scored 27 goals two seasons ago.

This season, he has three goals and 10 assists through 14 games.

Is this a good move for the Leafs? Have your say in our forum.

The deal involving McCabe was, according to early reports, supposed to have been concluded by 11:00 am today (Sept. 2). It's now 5:15 pm and still no confirmation.

According to Zeisberger in the Sun, the deal could also cost the Leafs yet another draft pick. But that's hardly surprising. I think anyone still breathing on the planet knows that the Leafs are desperate to shed that albatross of a contract being paid to a one-dimensional D, so anyone prepared to shell out that kind of money for 3 more years is going to want some kind of "reward" for taking it off Fletcher's hands.

Unless Jacques Martin has been taking dumb pills, I wouldn't be surprised if he's demanding a 1st round pick, although it will likely be a 3rd or 4th rounder.

He'd better hope that McCabe "finds himself" in Miami because, if the Panthers come up short again, he'll be looking for a job next year.

LEAF!!

Here's something for you genius to ponder."How can anyone beat your loser team in the playoffs, when it fails to make it that far, year after year?"

Another point you might wanna consider while you're at it.You don't have to wait 2 years for your "KICK A$$" team, the other 29 teams in the league will "KICK THEIR SORRY A$$" as early as next October.

Put on your pick shades dude, and enjoy. We'll laff right along along with you....:d

Norbit,

isn't the Hens were the last team to go to the cup final, at least the last from Canada?

by the way, i think they had a few more problem than just Emery.

and i beleive the netry fees into the league have nothing to do with the Leafs, at least not more than any other team in the league.

SHUT UP HEN FANS OH SORRY SEN FANS... GO COMMENT ON YOUR TEAM NEWZ....YOU PPL SHOULD SHUT YOUR MOUTH UNTIL OTTAWA BEATS TORONTO IN PLAYOFF.....WA WA CRY BABIES...

GOOD MACBE IS GONE. BY 2 YEARS WE'LL HAVE KICK A$$ TEAM.

They got rid of the wrong guy. I understand the financial aspect but Kaberle's got to go too.

All Ottawa really had to deal with was Emery. Once that problem was fixed their basic core remains pretty strong. But of course a retarded Leafs fan thinks that they are now better than the likes of Spezza,Heatley and Alfredsson. Make no mistake, the Sens are still a better team, but at least Fletch instituted a few changes in the right direction.

As for the Leafs being Canada's team, I laugh at your idiocy. They are Toronto's team, nothing more. Trust me, they aren't all that popular in Alberta, where the last two teams to actually go to the Cup final are from. Watch and cry as the Oilers and Flames own this year.

Mike, not sure what you mean by "...see footage of your owners begging for money..."? What does the lack of deep pockets have to do with anything? I think the Leafs are the poster child organization for the fact that the deepest of pockets do not buy a winning team. I'll take the Sens organization any day.

Yes they were hurting for cash. They also got reamed (possibly at the behest of the Leafs) when they joined the league. The province forced the Sens to pay over $10 million for the onramp beside the Corel centre, when there is already one less than a km away. If this were the Leafs the province would be throwing money at them. Face it, the Sens built a great team with little cash. If Yashin were on the Leafs he'd have had $10M per year and a no trade. On Ottawa, they let him sit out a year, forced him to play and then traded him for what turned out to be Chara and Spezza. That's how you build a hockey team

Van Ryn had some serious wrist problems the last couple seasons and only played 20 games last year after going under the knife. He might not even be able to play -- was getting him worth losing an able bodies defencemen? I hope so.
Mike MacInnis, 2008-09-02 12:42:34

How do you fix a broken team? Start in goal and work your way out. Raycroft gone, Toskala in. Bryan McCabe dealt, Schenn in (in a year).

Without dealing McCabe that would be like installing a new carpet ontop of the old, dirty one. It would still stink up the joint, and possibly ruin the new material.

AS for Ottawa fans, you need to see all the footage of your owners begging for money in the years before Gene Melnyk. It was a regular staple on TSN.

Give yourself a pat on the back PM...You're a true credit to your "nation".Loser and happy to be.At least,Ottawa makes the playoffs year after year, which, according to "laff nation",is the ultimate goal to achieve.Your beloved "storied franchise blue & white" has won the very same thing as Ottawa ,since the senators came into the league in the mid-nineties,which is.....NOTHING.

As for your kissing request...since your head is already so close to it's "target"....how about you do the kissing yourself.

As far as McCabe goes..he wasn't any worse then the rest of the other losers, 3rd and 4th liners, who make up this sorry excuse for a NHL team.

Autumn's just around the corner, and the leafs are ready to fall, once again..:)ENJOY!!!
