Are the Leafs pulling off good moves?
Mon, November 24, 2008

The Maple Leafs have traded Carlo Colaicovo and Alex Steen to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forward Lee Stempniak.

Stempniak, 25, a native of West Seneca, N.Y., scored 27 goals two seasons ago.

This season, he has three goals and 10 assists through 14 games.

Is this a good move for the Leafs? Have your say in our forum.

hey, Vince,

the Hens got in becouse other teams lost, not because they were that good. lost by one goal in a totaly gutless game. way to go Hens! and actually, i hate the Hens fans who are going around and bloating about their team and getting on a player who dared to touch thier "very respected" captain, more than the team.

What now for the Laffs ? Early jump on the best tee times ? Get to go up to cottage country earlier so they can beat the traffic. Do what they did all year, be lazy.

Fletcher should have fired Maurice, gutted the team at the deadline for draft picks. Made the interm coach play Raycroft half the remaining games and they would be in the lottery for sure. Way to go management, neither happened, didnt make the playoffs again, and miss out on a lottery pick. Isnt hard to see why the team is in such a bloody mess. Cant do anything right.

Fed up and wont tolerate another year like this. Get your act together or you will have 1 less fan.

Please don't put Pohl, Newbury, Battaglia, Wellwood, Harrison or any other AHL lifer into a Laffs uniform next year.

Surprise me with an opening day roster that has a minimum of 12 new names.

The coaching staff, the scouts, the goalies, all should be sent packing. I kind of liked Coach Mo for his humour but I believe he knew deep done from the season opener just how bad this team was. However, if he couldn't find a way to get Vesa to stop those shots aimed over his shoulder or couldn't find a stratety to counter the opposition's use of the neutral zone trap, well he is never going to make it to the playoffs. While I accept that JFJ put a curse on everything he touched, it really is remarkable how not one single decision he made worked out. Not one single fluke. Blake, Raycroft, Lindros, Yannick Tremblay, Peca, Gill were all failures. Amazing! Until the curse of JFJ is erased, I mean, until all his decisions are reversed or eradicated, the Laffs are doomed.

I hear Richard Peddie, who must have been getting kickbacks along with JFJ on players contracts, is planning to increase ticket prices by 8% next year.

No lottery pick, no high draft choices equal a 08/09 season that will guarantee the Laffs a lottery pick and a high draft choice. Next season. Golf Laffs Golf!

Hey Peter. The Sens got 94 points and they finished in 7th place. They lost by one goal in their last game. The Leafs lost their final game by 2 goals and got run out of the rink by the Canadiens. They finished in 12th place and are out of the playoffs for the THIRD YEAR IN A ROW. Enough said. So, what is your point?

Hating a particular team does not justify everything that you say.

Vince in Ottawa, 2008-04-06 19:51:51

Philly Frank, I have to respectfully disagree with you on something. The Leafs problem is they set very HIGH goals every year under the delusion they are a Cup contender every year. The esteemed Bob Mackenzie of TSN actually said thatin the pre-season if I recall. He's a microcosm of Leaf's nation, and a perfect example of why I don't really listen to hockey analysts. When I heard of McCabe, Kubina, Tucker etc. all being given bloated no-trade contracts I laughed and said, "well, no playoffs for them", and I was correct. I also said the same about my beloved Oilers and was very happy to have them almost prove me wrong. Too bad there isn't more discussion about them and their huge amount of talented rookies...

Anyways, the hit by Bell was dirty and I could care less what Bettman says. Bettman is an idiot and has no business running an ice cream stand much less a pro sports league. He was headhunting, hell, the whole Leafs team was because they're out and wanted to screw Ottawa over. Any Leafs fan who cheers that hit is a perfect example of why their team is despised.
Norbit, 2008-04-06 10:01:29

and the Hens got in because they are such a great team? what did they do in their last game?
Peter, 2008-04-06 07:48:44

Mark bell is an idiot. He wears the full mask and goes and nails one of the most respected hockey players in the NHL, I know he needs a contract next year but he is going in to jail, if i had to make a team, he wouldn't be on mine.
RJ, 2008-04-06 06:53:55

To all the Leaf fans that think Mark Bell is a good guy. Yes ok he is tough all of a sudden now that he has a cage to hide behind.

Ohh yea dont forget about the time when he was playing junior in Ottawa when he and another teammate beat up a taxi driver. Bell is a disgrace and looks good disgracing not only himself but the Leaf organization to boot.

Just one more reason as if there arent enough already, not to cheer for the Leafs.
Andy, 2008-04-05 21:46:31

Bells hit was cleary dirty. It was an elbow, all you blind make me laff fans put your rose coloured glasses on and smell the coffee.

I guess Bell is taking over the cheap shots that Domi use to give out.

You make me laff fans are nothing more than a bunch of suckers. Believe some BS from the coach that they will be a not just playoff team but a Stanley Cup contender is freaking hilarious. They didnt make the playoffs last year when Raycroft had 37 wins, traded for a number 1 goalie and nothing else and they expect to make the playoffs ? To funny. Well dont be surprised if you losers dont make it in again next year.

If Sundin does walk your number 1 center is Matt Stajan ? Ohh yea that spells playoffs for sure. On a good team Stajan is at best a third or even fourth line center, but with the almighty make me laffs he can be number 1 come October. Good luck with that.

Hey make me laff fans, I have some swamp land for sale, real cheap ;-).
