Are the Leafs pulling off good moves?
Mon, November 24, 2008

The Maple Leafs have traded Carlo Colaicovo and Alex Steen to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forward Lee Stempniak.

Stempniak, 25, a native of West Seneca, N.Y., scored 27 goals two seasons ago.

This season, he has three goals and 10 assists through 14 games.

Is this a good move for the Leafs? Have your say in our forum.

What the hell is going on in Leaf land ? Peddie the meddler is interviewing Nonis again today ?

Idiots havent learned Peddie knows squat about hockey and needs to be warned stay out of the hockey side of things or you will be fired. he is the 1 that hand picked JFJ, hasnt learned a damn thing.

Cant wait to watch this blow up in their face just like everything else has lately. I will be the first 1 to point and laugh at these damn idiots that cant do anything right even with a search committee that doesnt have a hockey man on it I might add lol.

DisgruntledFan, I can definitely see your point but it was more wishful thinking that he would return than anything. From what I've heard Burns is looking for a contender and rumor in the grapevine is that he's eyeing Ottawa.

Toronto really needs an experienced coach and I just wish I could think of someone more qualified. I suppose Quinn wouldn't be a bad choice if he wants to return after what he was put through last time.

As for GMs we're going to have an issue as well. Bowman would be amazing but I can't see him taking the job. As for Burke, he's not coming up anywhere soon as well. Hopefully TMLE can think of something I'm missing...

Pete actually has a point and a relevant one at that. Fletcher isn't on the comittee to find a new GM, in face from what I've heard he seems to be overly cautious with decissions he can make as it's been made clear he wouldn't be in the position for long. This temporary GM positioning of Fletcher is a bit of a let down, they may as well have left things alone until they found a new GM. If you really think about it Fletcher coming into power marked the point where the Leafs began their downward spiral to begin with.Even with his past trades. My question to you is, just because you can make a trade, is it a good idea?

Only 1 thing wrong with your comment, Fletcher isnt involved in the search for the new GM LOL.

What do the Maple Leafs do now?

They're already doing it! They're looking for a new GM, asking for permission to talk to GMs, interviewing candidates.

I think Cliff Fletcher knows what he's doing more than we do - he's been doing it for 30 years!

Evan, while I can appreciate a fan seeing the merits of bringing back a coach who took them closer to the Cup than any over the past 40 years, the fact remains Pat Burns has been fired by Montreal, Boston, and Toronto. Also, when he coached the Leafs it was pre-Cap and a time when teams could bring in anyone they liked and at any time without worrying about total salaries.

It's a different ball game now and I think Pat Burns is probably keenly aware that NO coach on the planet is going to turn that sow's ear into a purse in less than 3 or 4 years. So, why would he even consider taking the job?
DisgruntledFan, 2008-05-13 09:09:20

There's awrong paradigm here. People blame certain players, then no-trade clauses, then the team, then Ferguson, then Maurice, then the circumstances that no one greatly qualified is yet available to replace Leaf management or coaches. This is all nauseating. The Maple Leafs are not run by a wealthy owner who would do whatever it takes to win. But, the pathetic Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, CTV, TD Bank and Kilmer Sports (Larry Tanenbaum). Collectively, they careless about whether the Leafs win or lose. And, why should they care when revenue and profit continues to increase for a loser team? Until the real hard-hitting questions begin to daily target this Group of talented slime ball accountants, business will continue as usual.

If the Laffs do wait till next summer for Burke to be available it shows what little Kirke knows.

Fletcher is a hockey man but isnt on the 3 man panel, Kirke isnt a hockey man but is on it. That explains so much on why the Laffs suck.

They do everything ass backwards. Gotta say it looks good on them.
Pete, 2008-05-12 11:24:13

I'd like to see the Leafs expand on their existing roster with some young talent. Deal Raycroft or send him down to the farm team to work on his game. In the meantime continue to play Toskala and perhaps give Pogge the backup position in order for the youngster to gradually ease his way into NHL level play. Of course what will likely happen is Toronto offering a massive amount of money for Jagr to fill the Sundin position when he returns to Sweden or another NHL team.

As far as the coaching position I'd like to see Pat Burns return to Toronto as in my opinion he was the last couch to come close to getting us a cup in the 90s.
Evan, 2008-05-12 09:04:39

Sell the make me laffs to Jim Basillie and let him move them to Kitchener or Hamilton and then apply for an expansion team lol
