They get rid of everyone they can via buyouts, take the hit on the cap, go as young as possible. Bring up Pogge, deal whoever you can and start from scratch and do it right!!! forget Sundin,I'm tired of hearing that he has earned the RIGHT to hold the Leafs hostage! This is a business, that is the way it has been run for years so either treat it like one, or go the other way, and get Tavares and go from there. People will not cancel their tickets especially if they see you are going in the right direction for a change! Good bye Darcy, see ya McCabe, buy Kubina! it's been great watching you fumble around and steal good money but it's time to go!! and we don't need to pay Sundin 8 million dollars to be in last place, you received a nice salary for your time hear that is your reward thanks for the memories time to move on!! And get Kypreos, McQuire and DOn Cherry off the air this is Toronto can't we get someone with some common sence who aren't wind bags on the airwaves and on T.V sheesh!!!

Nice! Another nice extended payday for Gord Kirke. Another year to keep looking at the same 5 guys.
If they really are waiting for Saint Burke, that is another year down the tubes for someone who is really no better than a lot of others who are available.
Love it.

Fletcher really hasn't done much so far to judge him on, but he's more of a hockey guy than Ferguson was so let's see. The fact that he's just filling the seat might actually work to the Leaf's favour. He won't have to take any crap off of the Teacher's Union or the other owners who try to meddle. He can tell em all to go eff themselves if they want to run the show and he can just quit if they don't like what he is doing. Since they want him to stick around until Burke is free, they may back down. In this way, a hockey guy might actually run this team for the next year for a change.

Once again some lowlife is using this nick to create a phony dispute. They must have so very little in their pathetic lives to stoop to that crap. For the record, I did NOT write that last post.

Here we go again, the season is just around the corner and already guys like Mike bashing Ottawa. Does it really help you feel better about your woefully lacking Leafs. Grow up.
Disgruntledfan, 2008-06-10 13:21:16
Aww come on Mike. Just ignore that type of useless post. I learned that much with a certain other party in these threads. All it does is deteriorate into name-calling and dredging up history and yesterday's news which has, as you well know I'm sure, absolutely nothing to do with today.

Hey Justin Thyme I guess your too young to remember what the HEART of T.O. does to Ottawa in the playoffs.Your talent could not beat the Leafs in the 90's and early 2000,s.That took HEART.Think about that next time you feel like talking about T.O. Buy the way are the Ottawa Roughriders still in the CFL,great fans in Ottawa eh

I'm not sure what you mean, Doug, when you say Fletcher's "doing a good job." What, exactly, has he done other than deal Gill to a Stanley Cup finalist and his only policeman to Florida.
And when you say "dump those contracts" I assume you're referring to Blake $15 mil with 4 years to go), Tucker ($9 mil with 3 years left), McCabe $14,450,000 with 3 years left) and Kubina ($10 mil over 2 years). Dump them how? If he buys them out it will cost the cap two-thirds of their salaries, or something in the area of $32 million over several years.
If you mean trade them, exactly who do you see not only taking on the very albatross salaries the Leafs are trying desperately to get rid of, but also give up draft picks in exchange?
Any such GM would have to be brain-dead.
And if Saint Burke rides to the rescue on his white steed, how will he be able to do any more to get rid of those salaries than Fletcher? He's less popular around the league than a skunk and you know other GMs will love watching him twist on the rope.
