Are the Leafs pulling off good moves?
Mon, November 24, 2008

The Maple Leafs have traded Carlo Colaicovo and Alex Steen to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forward Lee Stempniak.

Stempniak, 25, a native of West Seneca, N.Y., scored 27 goals two seasons ago.

This season, he has three goals and 10 assists through 14 games.

Is this a good move for the Leafs? Have your say in our forum.

leafs should have picked up RJ Umberger when they had the chance. Both times. Before the trade deadline, and before the draft.

The leafs need to totally rebuild through the draft, trades, free agents, buyouts whatever it takes to get younger players & develop them.

the make beliefs would do best to move to a city where the hockey fans can actually attend a game, hmm I hear Winnipeg is looking....

The Leafs need to rebuild through the draft. That means the present leaf leadership needs to be traded or bought out, and the Team needs to go with young players they develop. It means losing records for the next few years with the chance of something special.

Has Peddie secretly taken over calling the shots for the Jays too?

I mean, here they bring back a guy who had 4 straight losing seasons before getting canned, and somehow he's gotten smarter and better with age?

Looks more and more like that bad air in TO has warped the brains of those in charge of the city's sports franchises, not to mention those that flock to the parks/arenas to watch them.

Until Burke is resigned in Anaheim, these rumours will persist.

I don't really care who the Maple Leafs get as GM, as long as he has winning experience and they have other good components (Al Coates and an improved scouting staff, especially in Europe).

Burke is so over rated it isnt funny. Murray deserves just as much credit for the Ducks cup win as Burke does. Look at Burke's overall record, nothing in Hartford or Vancouver then he lucked out and became GM of a team that was on the rise with good young players like Perry and Getzlaf that played a huge role in the playoffs on the second line.

Burke will fall flat on his face if he comes to Toronto.

What a come down that will be next year if Brian Burke goes to T.O. He will undoubtedly have a long honeymoon that will last for about 3 years. During that time, among his greatest achievements will be the whining about the fines and the poor officiating his mediocre team receives from the League. Watch out after that! The Toronto media knives will be out.

Well for the last few years the Maple Leafs have shown their fan base what is important and it seems they will continue to do so. The Leafs have readily admitted that Richard Peddie stays because he is good at making money! Not getting champions on the ice but the all mighty dollar. If you really want to see a winning team then tune them out totally. Stop watching games, stop buying merchandise and best of all stop talking about these perennial losers.

The leafs have spent the last ten yrs trying to buy veterans to give them the final boost to get a contender. Wake up and rebuild with youth the game is to fast to rely on older experience when they can't even keep up or catch the young phenoms coming up thru the juniors. Tell Fletcher to bite the bullet and rebuild, because every loyal leaf fan will be here until that beautiful day they finally win a cup again
