The Maple Leafs have traded Carlo Colaicovo and Alex Steen to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forward Lee Stempniak.
Stempniak, 25, a native of West Seneca, N.Y., scored 27 goals two seasons ago.
This season, he has three goals and 10 assists through 14 games.
Is this a good move for the Leafs? Have your say in our forum.

Fletcher seems to be doing it this way as well. I don't know who's in the Leaf farm system but he is cutting away the deadwood. And while Sundin may be on his way out, I read elsewhere that Joe Sakic might be coaxed into finishing his career with the Leafs. If this comes to fruition, Fletcher might just land his 'Alexi Kovalev.'
Apparently, Brian McCabe survived the buyouts probably because his buyout would probably make a pretty big dent in the Leaf salary cap. But, if I were Fletcher, I'd move him the first opportunity I got.
No, we wouldn't take him in Montreal (inter-division trades are rare to none anyway) because, as harsh as it sounds, we need good defencemen.
I like watching Fletcher the facilitator go to work. He knows the game, the players and the business. It might take a few years, but at least the club has identified what has to be done.
We went through the same thing in Montreal. Good luck!!!

Cliffhanger don't part with any more draft choices. This free agency era will never a winner in TO make. Its 1st and 2nd round draft choices over 3 or 4 years. There is no other way.
Has JFJ been charged with fraud and impersonation yet?

In Goal, Toskala and possibly, Pogge. Not Bad. it could be worse you could have Raycroft in net.
Defense- McCabe, Kaberle, Kubina. Possibly, Williams, and Schenn (if he makes the cut which I think he can)Overall not too shabby. However, I see the Leafs trading Kubina for a fast strong stay at home D-man to help on the penalty kill. Sure Hal Gill was there last year, but he was too slow. Big, but too slow.
Offence - I like the 3 and 4 line. Solid. Antropov is 1 line material, where as Ponikrovsky is solid number 2 lineman. Now if you look at the young guys I see a lot of potential but that is what this coming season is for. I don't see the Leafs making the playoffs, but I do see a marked improvement on the power play and defense with Ron Wilson's system.
The big question is Do Leaf Fans have the patience for this development year.
I do. Go Leafs.

There will always be the odd pure mercenary (like Chara) who is motivated more by the money than team success, but in those cases you have to wonder about their attitude and willingness to win.
Offer sheets to RFA's is certainly one way to go, but there you could be giving up significant parts of the future in terms of draft choices depending upon the amount offered to players such as Corey Perry, Wojtek Wolski, Jay Bouwmeester, Jarsoslav Halak, Antoine Vermette, Jeff Carter, Ryane Clowe, and Brooks Laich.
