Are the Leafs pulling off good moves?
Mon, November 24, 2008

The Maple Leafs have traded Carlo Colaicovo and Alex Steen to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forward Lee Stempniak.

Stempniak, 25, a native of West Seneca, N.Y., scored 27 goals two seasons ago.

This season, he has three goals and 10 assists through 14 games.

Is this a good move for the Leafs? Have your say in our forum.

Fletch got fingered when he signed Finger who according to the Denver Post lacks stamina, skill and grit (wears a permanent knee brace). Denver Post thought he was overpaid at $1M/yr. Recurring problem in TO, staff can't tell a good hockey player from a bad one. Can't really believe Fletch made the call on this one. It was probably someone like Tony Granato. Cujo could be a good addition for a future role in the org once his playing days are over. On paper, Laffs are definitely now a last place club which isn't bad if they hang on to their draft picks for the next 3-4 years.

You DON'T rebuild by forking over $14 million of limited cap space to a journeyman D named Finger. Holy crap. If anyone should get the "finger" it's Fletcher!

Fletcher has done a good job so far. I just hope he continues on with trading Kubina and Koskala and trying to convince McCabe to move on because he isnt wanted anymore. Hopefully Sundin will not be back so that will save millions.

They should be one of the bottom teams in the league for the next few years and be drafting in the top 5 and rebuild like Pittsburgh did.

I heard on the radio this morning that Stajan and Moore are the Leafs priorities right now. I had to shake my head and make sure I heard that correctly, both are 3rd liners at best and they are the priorites ????? No wonder they havent done anything in 41 years and counting. No offence to either of them but the AHL is full of guys like them.

Should be a very interesting rest of the summer.

Who cares the rest of Canada love them the way they are. Gill the pockets of the TF and stick it to the fans who pay the price. Dont count on Brian B. he is only interested in satisfying his own ego. Take the team and go play in the east coast league and leave the rest of us alone, we are tired of hearing the Leafs wine. They should have got rid of Matt a long time ago he has not done to much for the organization other than suck them in. How many points has he got in the playoffs in the last five years, he enjoys the summer off.

So far Fletch has not been able to trade a player for another player. I guarantee you he has been trying but it just shows how thin the talent base is on the Laffs. Peddie/JFJ sure boxed him in. Sundin, McCabe abd Tucker should have been traded instead of being given those no trade contracts. Fletch needs to keep his options open and shouldn't hesitate to trade Toskala if he can get something good in return.

j.p what channel do you watch the leafs on. mcabe fights he is the biggest chicken in the league gets behind the linesmen dont hit me dont hit me..and bell for toughness, malone beat the crap out of him and broke his optical bone..thats why the drinker was out for quite a while..open your eyes j.p.
WILLY, 2008-06-30 13:23:39

Sundin. Here's a guy that's been the captain of the leafs since forever.

At the trade deadline he refused to move. The leafs could have gotten someone for him and he'd have been back July 1st.

Now he's stalling efforts for Fletcher to start a rebuild by his indecision. This guy doesn't give a rat's a$$ about the leafs and Bob Gainey wants to give this turd 8 mil??

For what? Sitting in front of the net like a fat house cat counting his money??

Kiss him goodbye Cliff, he's a cancer to the team with his me me attitude.

And he won some award for leadership this year??

Unbelievable.

They should move to the states so the players don't wilt under the pressure of playing in Toronto.
Joe, 2008-06-30 12:14:37

the leafs are dumping but not adding and all the best players are being picked up quickly.as always the leafs aren't up to any kind of taski',m sure they will lose again next year too.
t-dog, 2008-06-30 10:50:40

Mr. Bill - did you post that several years ago and it's just showing up now? Roberts was last with Leafs years ago, Malone never has been a Leaf, and they don't need to "dump" Sundin - he's effectively dumping them.
