Are the Leafs pulling off good moves?
Mon, November 24, 2008

The Maple Leafs have traded Carlo Colaicovo and Alex Steen to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forward Lee Stempniak.

Stempniak, 25, a native of West Seneca, N.Y., scored 27 goals two seasons ago.

This season, he has three goals and 10 assists through 14 games.

Is this a good move for the Leafs? Have your say in our forum.

I'm Ok with Cliffhanger's moves to shed the albatrosses but think he paid far too much money for the really marginal additions he has made. Fletch should fire scouts Granato and Morrison. Laffs need better talent assessors. Laffs must hang on to each and every draft choice. Giving up a second rounder for a 3 goal scorer is really insane. I am expecting the Laffs to finish last this season and to not have that second round pick means they give up a player ranked (potentially) 31. As well, by October, $14M Gold Finger could be riding the pine or back in the AHL. Only time will tell but based on the Laffs 41 years of ineptitude don't bet against all Fletch's additions to date becoming losers.

to canoe. you put out a question and receive comments on that question. if some of these childish people want to cut each other up why do you print it..thats not what this is about and you should monitor it. you are encouraging bashing by printing these comments. if you didnt it would stop.there is nothing wrong with agreeing or disagreeing in an appropriate manner but some of this is absolutely ridiculous and childish for grown adults to act this way. simple dont print it!!!!!!!

Chuck you hit the nail on the head!!!!

The Leafs just plain suck!!!!

The leafs are the pooper scooper of the NHL so they do serve a purpose, any player not wanted by another team or is just gotten to worn down always knows he will be picked up and signed to a multi million dollar contract, The leafs are the bottom feeders so in the big scheme of things we should all be grateful, it gives the Lindros's, the Mccabe's, the Sundin's, The Cujo's all places to play when they should be long retired

Being a Leaf fan, every year at this time I have hope. Each year I am let down and only the depth of that failure changes. This year I feel different. I like Fletcher. I have faith in him and the job that he is doing as well as the job he has done for the Leafs in the past. He is a shrewd Manager and is the best man to turn this team around. As quarterback in the rebuilding process, he isn't going to win a Superbowl, but I believe he will get this team to the end zone. We have some very real top prospects to get excited about who will certainly give us something to cheer about. We have seen many teams in the new "parity" era come from the bottom to be real challengers in the course of a single season. They did it by doing what Fletcher is doing right now. Therefore I have hope, more hope than I have had in years. I hope the Leafs make the play offs. I hope the Leafs go far but if they don't I have hope that they will make it up another rung on the ladder leading to the cup next season as well. Fletcher will, by next season, have put together the coaching staff and team that Burke would have done if he were here, and he WILL be here next year. I have hope that the Leafs will then be ready to return to greatness. At the very least, I hope!

The Leafs Five Year Plan.

Cliff Fletcher does an amazing job of making the Leafs younger and more promising in the coming year. Fletcher gets let go, Burke comes in. Burke proceeds to make some high profile trades using his younger, promising players. Leafs make playoffs and go on a two round run. Maybe even make the third round. Leafs fans are exstatic. They think Burke is a god. This one year is followed by four years of the leafs getting older, slower, and less of a layoff contender every year. (maybe more than four years, that playoff run will make them believe Burke knows what he's doing.) In five to ten years, Burke gets run out of town do to no playoff apperances and little to no up and coming talent in the organization (This is Burke's MO). Desperate, the leafs get Cliff Fletcher to clean up the mess for the next big name little talent GM. So leafs fans, get ready for 2010-2011. It will be the only good year for the next decade.

Instead of everybody insulting everyone else, why dont we all agree that the leafs just suck.

Disgruntledfan aka Pete must be a typical Senators fan....if someone has an opinion that differs from yours, they don't know "butkiss" about hockey. I was under the impression that this forum was for people to express their own ideas... whether they know anything about hockey or not. As for stating the obvious...which of my posts does that? And I haven't seen any one "prove me wrong" about any of my OPINIONS either.

This other Pete has posted many times and all he does is call people names...no disputing opinions or stating facts for him.

I am not a Leafs fan. But it seems someone there is trying to put together an attack. Oh and Harold Ballard sucks. He ruined this team.

A little off topic here, but just looking at the poll topic..."After" Mats Sundin, who is the next biggest NHL free agent? I'd take Sakic over Sundin any time. I don't know why Sundin is suddenly the saviour of whichever team he goes to if anyone. What has he ever done that Sakic, Forsberg OR Shanahan hasn't, other than play for the Leafs?
