Are the Leafs pulling off good moves?
Mon, November 24, 2008

The Maple Leafs have traded Carlo Colaicovo and Alex Steen to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forward Lee Stempniak.

Stempniak, 25, a native of West Seneca, N.Y., scored 27 goals two seasons ago.

This season, he has three goals and 10 assists through 14 games.

Is this a good move for the Leafs? Have your say in our forum.

Yeah! At least with free tickets, you'd be getting your money's worth!!

Excellent idea, get the thugs off the road for a few hours, plus who would be dumb enough to pay to watch an AHL team play!!!p

Sounds like ebay will be busy selling these off for a profit....What are you doing for the real fan....remeber us?? the guys who have been the laughing stocks for the last 40+ years....keep your tickets....WE WANT THE CUP.....WAKE UP FLETCHER

This organization is going nowhere even with Burke. It is time to literally clean house and that means Pettie and the whole visionless organization.

Doesn't make sense. Why give fans a preview of how terrible the team is going to be this year? What happened to the "we will compete for the Cup" phrases that keep reeling in their sucker fans year after year? I wonder if Leaf players are getting tired of seeing traces of snow on the golf courses?

Remember Maclean's article which clearly gave reasons "Why the Leafs stink?" Bad mgt was at top of the list. Peddie was justifiably pilloried as were bad choices by scouting staff year after year. So far since this article was written, the same scenario plays out. Peddie, Mike Penny and scouts like Morrison and Granato are still there, still making stupid moves. Its one thing to make a bad choice of player but its another to trade away draft picks for every guy you bring in. That waves goodbye to the future. For example, I can't recall how many draft picks went to get Hal Gill but that whole package and another draft pick went to get Mikhael Gorbovsky. Fletch's new player acquisitions came at too high a cost in draft picks. In the same Maclean's article, players were categorized into albatrosses, keepers and traders. There should now be a new category - "designated loser" I put a player like Finger into this category. He is a marginal player and apparently a nice guy who if brought to TO for $1M/yr, fans wouldn't raise an eyebrow. But pay him at $4M and fans expect a Brad Stuart equivalent, a level this journeyman player can't possibly achieve. Not excusing McCabe but he too was paid at a level way beyond his capabilities. Both are designated losers (as is Blake) because of bad mgt decisions. Does anyone still question why Dave Keon was so fed up? 41 years and counting of really atrocious Laffs management at all levels.

Going for last place and a chance for good draft choices by bringing in 3rd and 4th stringers like Holwegg is OK but using draft choices to get them defies logic. If the Laffs' roster doesn't change until opening day, this team would be challenged to win the Calder Cup.

Biggest disappointment for me since Fletch's arrival is his slowness in heaving out every single person below his level in Laffs hierarchy who had anything to do with JFJ or a JFJ decision.

LOL. Good post DazedAndConfused. Have you read Buffery's column today? Fits right in with your observations.

Have you heard the latest? Now the team is GIVING away tickets to a preseason game. Might just as well give away season's tickets because won't the entire season be like preseason games? Trying out different combinations for your 3rd and 4th lines? After all, your 1st and 2nd lines are set. But wait....go down the list of names signed for next season...not one bona fide 1st or 2nd liner amongst the bunch.

Some may argue that Antropov and Poni played on Sundin's line, and Blake once scored 40 goals...yup I'll give you that...but who are you replacing Sundin with to make the 1st line???? Stajan?...Moore?...Williams?...Grabovsky? Give me a break! And if Sundin couldn't help Blake get 40, who on this team will?

No matter which way you look at this team (and I use that term loosely), there's no scoring, not really much in the way of defensive prowess, just a bunch of overpaid 3rd and 4th line pluggers.

And no leadership either. Who would you give the "C" to? Kaberle??? Does he even speak?...McCabe??? sure... he can lead the team from his couch after the Leafs tell him to stay home. No...give the fans the Finger as their new Captain...with this team nothing could be more appropriate.

if fletch is trying to get taveres he is doing a good job but dont believe the hype on taveres. i have seen him play many times and he is not as good as he is lead up to be.. i see another alexander daigle in the making....,the leafs can have him..
