Are the Leafs pulling off good moves?
Mon, November 24, 2008

The Maple Leafs have traded Carlo Colaicovo and Alex Steen to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forward Lee Stempniak.

Stempniak, 25, a native of West Seneca, N.Y., scored 27 goals two seasons ago.

This season, he has three goals and 10 assists through 14 games.

Is this a good move for the Leafs? Have your say in our forum.

Anyone read Buffery's column today? (April 2). Seems like Burke, the genius, pulled a boo-boo by handing Frogren a hefty bonus that cost him $500,000 AND their 4th round pick this summer, which essentially negates the entire deal made with Tampa at the trade deadline. Some genius.

.... and if you don't believe me, Peter, check out the results of the latest Poll here on Canoe!

Peter, I have to assume that TO fans don't read the newspapers or watch TV news either. There's an economic crisis at hand, bordering on a depression, that wasn't around last year.

And by the way, at least 8 teams have recently announced - and I stress recently - that ALL prices are frozen for their games - tickets, parking, food, souvenirs etc. And more will soon follow.

Sorry, but what the Leafs are doing is nothing more than a cash-grab, knowing full well thet, with the fans slavishly flocking to the rink regardless, they have a licence to print money!

Gary O.

i'm disappointed that you are jumping on the "ticket-issue" band wagon. most of the teams raised ticket prices last year and this year. The Leafs were the very few who didn't.

and i find it a bit offensive to call Leafs fans stupid just because they support their team. but i guess the Sens fans are the example everybody should follow. they are abandoning their team at the first sing of trouble.

I don't know about on-ice moves, but the back-room boys are pulling off some dandy moves. Let's see now, we don't make the playoffs for 4 straight years, we've got essentially a crap team, and thousands of fans in the GTA are facing job layoffs in the face of the worsening - and I stress worsening - economic crisis. So, let's reward them by raising ticket prices 3.5% next year! Yeah, that'll do it. We have to pay for Burke's salary somehow without giving up our own perks.

That the place will still be full next season speaks volumes about the collective IQ of the average fans in that area. Then again, what can you expect about an area that regularly elects tax-and-spend Liberals to both the provincial and federal governments.

Actually, Raycroft hasn't done as well as you think he has. Sure his win-loss record is pretty good, but his GAA and his save percentage is not that great at all.

It's because Colorado has scored when he has played that his record is as good as it is.

As for Finger, I think he was a good signing - maybe a bit too much money, but other teams wanted him too.

Just be patient. People seem to think rebuilding is completed in only 6 months, whereas in reality it takes at least 3 years.

The fans in TO couldn't wait to run Raycroft out of town, at the same time hailing Toskala as the one who would lead them from the wilderness now, and Poghge in the future.

Then along comes this revelation re raycroft

My, my how times have changed. Who was it that brought Raycroft in? Oh yeah, that reviled GM JFJ. Who ran Raycroft out of town? Oh yeah,Mr. Fix-It, Trader Cliff who then turned around and forked over $4 million plus for some obscure journyman D named Finger.

Good luck Burke. You're gonna need it.

no i don't think they are making good move's.tney are tradind better than they are getting back.they need to trade the goalie'or send him somewhere.tgat their whole problem.they know that 'they don't want to win/but the fan's do.we are sick of him.

Thanks, Vince in Ottawa.

I do believe that Ottawa should be better, but I think they are trying to get a top 5 pick in the draft.

The GM and owner have said nothing about the poor play of the team - they seem to be accepting of it.
gordholio, 2008-12-29 18:15:33

Right on "gordholio". The Sens do not have a starting lineup. They're "Non Starters" this year. The "No-name" Leafs are the division's "Upstarts"
