Following the now infamous hockey brawl involving his son, Jonathan Roy, should the Montreal Canadiens honour Patrick Roy?

Like Kelly Hrudey stated, this whole thing has been overblown by the media. Did you see or hear anything about the brawl in the other game? No, because no ex-NHL great was behind the bench. Let's just get on with enjoying the NHL playoff race and watching the Leafs prepare for the golf season.

Of no consolation, we have all seen worse actions on the ice over time. For a better example, Derek Sanderson should have been imprisoned for his near-lethal assault on Bob Falconberg in the 1965 Memorial Cup, but hey I'm just aging myself!

This Roy incident was sad, but the hype is more about a father (& son) with a household name. Patrick Roy has a volatile personality that puts most people off at the best of times. He's always been more than full of himself, and don't we all enjoy it when there's a bit of payback? Almost like Harold Ballard going to jail?

If it's true that one creates his own misfortune, then it's just Roy being Roy. Really, should we be surprised?

Hopefully the son doesn't take after his father and keeps his "punches thrown" limited to hockey players and not woman!

I remember as if it were yesterday when Hextall challenged the "tuff-guy" in that 89 playoff series to come down and get some.....Patrick stayed put.

I grew up (and playing) with hockey. Why are you so surprised. Morons still play and follow the game, in a time like this, really, good on them.

Hard to believe Patrick would wave his son over to fight the opposing goalie (Nadeau).Wonder what he was trying to accomplish by doing that. He made himself, his son, and the whole organization look like a bunch of sadsack idiots.I've always suspected Roy of being a loose cannon but that was a friggin disgrace which he may never recover from. At least from a coaching stanpoint. And surely Jonathon will be a 'marked man' from hear on in. I've always admired Roys' passion for the game but holy geez that was bad. Power combined with a big ego will for sure bring out the worst in people. Hopefuly, someday, Jonathan can forgive his father putting him through all this. PS-If I were Mario Tremblay I would have socked Roy right in the kisser that night in Montreal.
Guy from Ottawa, 2008-03-26 00:34:48

Based on the replays I saw, the suspensions are a joke - the guy skates down to the other crease where the goalie is just standing, rips his mask off and whales away - and all he apologizes for is flipping the bird at the crowd? Please!!!

IMHO, stuff like this and the Chris Pronger thing in the NHL seriously undermine the overall integrity of the game.

Conduct like this deserves dismissal from Pro Hockey. I have rad some comments that say its part of Hockey and you should play if you don't want to Fight...Bobby Nadeau is one of the best goalies in the League... Roy one of the worst. Nadeau was doing what he plays to do Be a great goalie. Roy what he is a spoiled brat

It looks like someone was coached in summer hockey!,.

Hey "Dad, u should be charged with accessory to assault,(by ur Kid),, and ur kid should be charged with; assault, being not canadian!,and whatever[this was not nice for anyone to see!] ".

I dont think anyone involved with sports can hv a record, so give em a record and remove this type from a sport and get back to hockey agin, k?

lets get back to skill, Don, ??, lol,.

This is only Mmy opinion and I think were still intitled to that(Ihope, lol).

I didnt like that performance and it will hurt kids to see it!!!,.

By and large I agree with the prior comments, my issue is that the governing bodies of this, and most other sports for that matter. They may talk the talk but don't walk the walk, and this sorry excuse for punishment is just another example of their lack of backbone. Nothing short of lifetime bans for both these idiots would be sufficient, and as long as the old boys network continues in control we will be faced with other similar incidents. What injuries will it take for something to be done. What do we do,

organize boycotts of Remparts games to wake someone up !!!
