Ever since his Montreal days Patrick Roy has thought he is bigger than the game. Remember the Mario Tremblay photo. The look of absolute disrespect on Tremblay's face said it all. No matter how good he was or how rich he may be, he will never be fully respected by the hockey world. The QMJHL has had enough of his act. He still doesn't know how to co-exist with real people. Patrick, do your son a favour, and let someone with principles and values coach him (such as Brent Sutter), before you ruin him completely.

Fighting is part of hockey from peawee right up to the NHL level, not too many people get up and walk away or turn their T.V. off when theres a hockey fight, so until fighting is abolished live with it, if Roy's kid had been pummelled there probabally would't be so much hype, its because it was such a one sided fight and also he's Patricks kid that the media and other sources are all over it.

Absolute blown out for a slow news day ... what about the other playoff brawl that weekend? it was worse, yet it is little more than a footnote on the sports page. As for the finger salute? more quebec fans should be flipped the bird..LOL

Having Getzlaf and Phanuef who have been at each others throats since the late 90's(Rebels&Hitmen, Ducks&Flames) blowing off steam by throwing punches is one thing....

Roy went after a goalie who was in no way:

a) a threat to him or his teammates

b) adding to the problem that was occurring on the ice

c) breaking the rules by leaving his crease

d) interested in fighting him

There are pros and cons towards the fighting issue and that really isnt the issue here.

The issue is that this impressionable kid was encouraged by his father/coach to skate down the ice and start this fight.

For those purists who will try to say that fighting is part of hockey etc... This type of situation is not in the context of a Hunter-McSorley type brawl where both combatants want a piece of each other.

This was not a "hockey fight" but an assault.

Roy should be booted from the league as a coach and the kid disciplined for at least 20 games.

Roy thinks (as he did as a player) that he is above the rules and the game itself.

What is all the hoopla about when watching a N.H.L. game you see fights all the time.I think that it is being played up because it was Patrick Roy's son and his team and the fact that he is the coach of the team as well.I have been a fan of Patrick when he was the goalie for my favorite team the Canadiens and after he went to the other team, and I think that he is a super coach. If the media would just drop it but they really need someone to dump on so why not make it"The Great Patrick Roy", what would the media do if it happened to be Wayne Gretzy or one of his kids,I don't think that it would be played up so much.I don't think that there should be any criminal charges to Patrick, but knowing our people in the law enforcement I am sure that they want to make an example of Patrick.I still adore him as a coach and as he was as a player. I will always be a fan of PATRICK ROY.

Patrick Roy.

Great goalie

Bad move as a coach

Even worse as a father.

Should be removed from any role model roles.

If this is not Roy there is no coverage at all. But becasue it is Patty and every one hates a winner this is what happens. Kelly is dead on over blown crap by the media. Patrick knows he made a mistake leave him alone.

As long as fighting is mandated in the hockey culture it does not deserve to be a major sport worldwide. Such a great game - why include fighting?
Rene, 2008-03-26 11:12:14

Wow, another even over sensationalized by the media. And the police are to investigate the brawl? That is just ridiculous. Don't they have any real police work to do?

It's not in my view a matter of enough punishment. It's yet another opportunity for the Leagues to restore the game by eliminating the place for thugs and the Don Cherry brand of hockey.
