Should Ottawa get another CFL franchise?
Thu, March 20, 2008

Improvements to a broken-down building and an agreement the would-be tenants can live with appear to be all that's standing in the way of Ottawa fielding another CFL team in the 2010 season.

A local power group fronted by 67's owner Jeff Hunt that is backed by wealthy developers John Ruddy, William Shenkman and Roger Greenberg is expected to be granted a conditional franchise for the nation's capital next week.

Is Hunt's group the best way to return the CFL to Ottawa? Should the capital region get another football team following the loss of the Renegades and Rough Riders? Have your say in our forum.

Yes! I wouldn't expect anyone outside of Ottawa to understand what we have gone through over the last 20+ years but the one thing we have not had is a franchise to be proud of. Hopefully this is it.

Dont get me wrong i would love to have a team in halifax, i live there.

But I dont thinks its in the budget, but if we did get one, ti would show the NHL where to put a team in there next Ex. Class

This is whats wrong with the CFL. They have the same old story year after year. Get a team in the East where they have a rich tradition of football, where they still play football, where they have no other pro sports teams to compete with. It will give the league a fresh look, something to market, something for the Upper Canadians to cry about when they average over the 30,000 fans the first year.

You have got to be kidding. How many opportunities is Ottawa going to have? Please, let's try something really new and innovative, shall we? How about a team from the Atlantic region, in Halifax, where New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and PEI, and Newfoundland Labrador can support a team? I would rather a team be launched down east than Ottawa. There is a great football tradition and fan base in the East, and they would be a "big league" presence in the region, and a great way to have businesses support the expansion of the CFL there.

Ottawa has been tried and it has failed. Time to move on. For cying out loud, the Renegades did not cut it, especially due to the disconnect to the previous team (remember the Roughriders?) No support and no new stadium, so don't bother. Pack up the game plan and move it to Halifax, where people would care for it passionately.

By the way, I live in Ontario, and have no East coast connections. I am just fed up with failure in Ottawa.

Tony Soprano is a turd burglar, and should stick to hanging out with Vito and Johnny Cakes. Ottawa is going to get a CFL team, and we'll name 'em the Emrey's after the 2008 Stanley Cup Champ.

Definitly YES.Ottawa has had a long history of Football In The CFL & Collages & Highschools. With the Proper ownership( which the new group has in that they are Ottawa people)This City can & Will succeed with a CFL Team.

From what I can tell, Ottawa is full of unintelligent sports fans, so the CFL would be a natural fit.

No, not in Ottawa. The CFL has already failed there twice. How many times are we going to go down this path? I think the East Coast could use a professional sports team. I like the idea of the CFL in someplace like Halifax.

johnp, 2008-03-20 12:58:34

Yes of course! As soon as possible.

Russ Jackson, Bobby Simpson, Ronnie Stewart, Kaye Vaughn, Tony Gabriel, Whit Tucker, Tom Clements, Condredge Holloway, Rudy Sims, Charlie Brandon, George Brancato, we miss them all terribly.
